I thought it was a bad arena for hockey due to the way it is set up?

Considering Wang's love of basketball, and the fact that a move would be difficult financially to be viable, maybe the Nets and Islanders are merging, with Wang getting a piece of the Nets and the Nets owners getting a piece of the Isles?

Well I don't have any links to back this up... but I was pretty sure that the Nets and their ownership invited and welcomed the Islanders as a potential tenant.

The arena would only hold roughly 14,500 for hockey... (this is not a slight at the Isles so shut up) which would be good for them considering their average is 11-13k usually. Having a near sold out arena (albeit smaller) would be better for the team absolutely.

Their arena situation is a disaster. They really terribly need a new one. It's outdated and a pain in the butt for all involved. Most recently it was said to have an asbestos problem as well. It's also tough for anyone not in the immediate Long Island area to drive out to a game... There's really no train option either.

Having the Isles in Brooklyn would make them available to a ton of mass transit options.

Man, I hope Barclays Center is just a temporary home to the Isles. A capacity of 14,500 just won't cut it. The arena is just gonna look awkward just like America West Arena did for the Yotes.

This is HUGE if true... And I say that because of all the parties involved.Mayor Michael Bloomberg would not be there unless they were welcoming a new team to the city, Bettman as well...I live 10 min from the colliseum and I would hate to see all my first hockey memories dissapear with that building but the truth is Nassua county droped the ball big time, in particular Kate Murray.. And I am Happy if this is true because it means My Beloved Islanders will be STAYING in NEW York and we can now concentrate about John Tavares taking this team to the promise land without a uncertain future hanging over the teams head...

Click here for the seating charts... it does look awkward on one side of the ice. http://www.barclayscenter.com/3d-seating-charts/

Ratner said if the Isles were to make Barclays thier home that he would have no problems makeing the arena more suitable to accomodate hockey...

They can't be the Islanders if they don't play in Long Island.

They should call them the Brooklyn Dodgers.

It is. They're going ahead with it anyway, apparently.

Step 1. Locate a map

Step 2. Look at it

Step 3. Draw a new conclusion

The is 100% false, Brooklyn is on Long Island... Please just worry about Canada, there is no doubt in my mind that they will still be called the NEW YORK ISLANDERS!!!

This is unlikely, but every Islanders fan should be ****ing salivating at the thought of Russian Mark Cuban money after the **** they've been through recently.

Awesome.

Brooklyn is close to me so I can now see Devils-Islanders games there in addition to Newark.

I am VERY happy for the Islanders and their fans. A state of the art brand new arena located close to almost every mode of mass transit...

Hopefully Wang let's Ratner and Prokhorov (sp?) in on the ownership and the Isles will become a financial factor again.
