Read the rest of the thread. I've given my reason multiple times.
Um.. Bigger market. More of a population. More attractive to free agents. How doesn't it!?

Edit: Also, your post that I responded to was only one line!

They're walking straight into Rangers territory. Long Island has Rangers fans as well, but you're now in the city. The Islanders still won't have the money the Rangers have to shell out to those FA's. I will agree it's more attractive, but not more attractive than playing for an Original 6 team, playing in the heart of the city and playing in MSG.

It oversaturates the market. They've moved away from their fan base. Higher ticket prices will inevitably go up (in a bad economy, no less). And moving closer to NYC didn't work for the Devils.

You're clearly clueless I see. A bigger market? You do realize you are in rangers territory, right? So that "more of a population" you speak of, are already rangers fans and considering how close they are to MSG are not converting to Islanders fans....LOL not to mention you have a losing team. The Rangers who have currently spent years rebuilding to have a team that is now a cup contender orrr the lowly islanders who have been rebuilding for 10 years, squandering top draft picks, handing out worse contracts than the rangers which is hard to do, and not garnering any attendance. I highly doubt it attracts free agents more, especially when the team continually misses the playoffs.

And they've also brought the Devils into the mix for competition.

Bigger market? The Rangers games will be hard to get tickets being close to the Rangers base. Plenty of seats will be available for the other games.

Its in the Rangers front yard.

Hopefully Ranger Islander tickets at the Barclay Center won't be too expensive. I enjoyed going for cheap to Nassau

Isles "home" games will be dominated even more by Ranger fans now. That's not going to do much for fan or team morale.

Long Island is an island in the southeast of the U.S. state of New York, just east of Manhattan. Stretching northeast into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City (Queens and Brooklyn), and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). The term "Long Island" often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, although all four counties are on the island and part of the New York metropolitan area.

Not arguing with anyone, just helping to inform the misinformed.

Long Island or not, its still on an Island, so New York Islanders is just fine.

The Rangers could be Islanders also, technically.

Long Island really will be no part of it anymore other than where they used to play.

Tweak the logo. Dont tweak the logo. Whatever.

However, I will say as an Upstater, when people refer to Buffalo as Upstate NY or say Utica is Sabres territory, I lose my ****.

Buffalo is NOT Upstate. Its Western NY, and Eastern Upstate is NOT Sabres territory.

Im also assuming the Isles dont pay a territory fee since that was done 40+ years ago already, and they stay on MSG, unless YES takes them, which is a possibility, and thank god.

There's really no argument. If for some reason Long Island decided to float out further into the Atlantic Ocean, unfortunately for Brooklyn and Queens they'd be along for the ride. That doesn't mean they are a part of Long Island however. They are a part of New York City. They pay their taxes to New York City, and their police department and fire department are NYPD and FDNY.

Facts.

I made the mistake at freshman orientation at UB by saying Buffalo was upstate. Never lived that one down from the locals.

I don't think the logo would have to change...

I mean, BROOKLYN has been on the logo for as long as the franchise has been around...

All contingent on whether the NHL in its present form is still in existence in a few years. As of this second, the future of this league as we know it, cannot be determined.

I know that and ive lived downstate and Jersey.

Its just annoying seeing the Sabres referred to as Upstate.

They say Western themselves, so they at least know.

The whole Upstate Ranger MSG debacle is another can of worms with the league. Bettman and Daly really need to go.

Right, but theyll be in NYC, and Islanders, so technically Nassau and Suffolk counties shouldnt be on it.

Yeah, I went to Brockport for a semester and thats pretty much where I learned that Buffalo and Rochester are Western NY, per the locals.

There are a **** ton of people from LI that go to Brockport for some reason, and Oswego. So there were many Sabres/Islanders battles at parties. **** them both.

I have cousins in Baldwin, Oceanside, Freeport and Great Neck, but theyre Ranger fans.

Theyll be relieved of this news for sure.
