@mtainsider: We'll be ready to welcome the @NYIslanders to #Brooklyn in 2015 with extra game-night service on the #LIRR, Subway & buses.

I'm guessing Islanders seats on the glass won't be "quite" as expensive as for the Nets courtside:

Nassau takes the buyout.

assumed numbers

Islanders owes 5 million for the 2014-15 season.

They are offered 2.5 today. Think that don't consider it?

Of couse they consider it and come back at 4.5

through all the BS back and forth, they settle at 3.25 to get them out and everyone is happy.

Nassau can now pocket those funds and start booking out the dates they lost and make an additional 2-4 million thus increasing the expected revenue from 5 million to closer to 6-7 million.

Not taking the buy out would be assinine, depending on final numbers of course.

Great news for Isles fans. I've always had a soft spot for the Islanders, since in so many ways, they've been like the east version of the Oilers. (badass history, team colors, ****** last 20 years, good future, ****** arena, I could go on)

For Islanders fans living on the west side of the Coliseum, would getting to the Barclays Center really be that difficult? Just asking.

Moving from one of the oldest buildings in the NHL, into a brand new building.

Up until 2009, their lease was considered to be one of the worst in sports.
A sub-lease amendment in 2009, forced SMG (their landlord), to share some of SMG's revenue.

The NHL's latest cba proposal, calls for them to get revenue sharing. An extra $10m-$15m per.

Stronger lease + big local cable deal + revenue sharing should lead to a better on ice product, which should lead to improved attendance + playoff revenue.

This problem is not really fixable (at best they could maybe improve the lower bowl seat removal process to keep more seats), and was a decision made in the early construction of the arena.
I assumed it would have something to do with configuration. Thanks for the explanation!

The Isles were basically evicted from the area. Blame local politicians not C. Wang.

Wang should be applauded for keeping the team in NY and on Long Island! He did the best thing available for the fans. He could have easily moved the team to another area.
Why let reality get in the way of a good rabble-rousing rant! Owners are evil, and the root cause of everything bad that has happened since original sin!

Sorry, but it's incredible how you could make such a simple answer be difficult to understand.

Are you saying,
"No", it wouldn't be difficult because there is "great train access".
Or are you saying that
There is "no" "great train access".
?

I'm kinda impressed with Charless Wang. He gets a lot of (mostly unfounded imo) grief. His commitment to the team and the area are pretty impressive

Considering the absolute financial mess Nassau is in, I can see something like this happening.

Now that retaining the Isles is dead with that ironclad 25 year lease in Brooklyn, it's definitely a possibility.

I'd like to see them in there ASAP, but we'll see.

This move, combined with the Devils move to Newark, might put a stake in the whole concept of the suburban team. It was a nice experiment while it lasted.

from the news conference:

Ratner said that Wang got out of state offers, to buy the isles, but Wang wanted them kept local.

Bettman pointed out that Barclay's will add extra seats. He expects 15,150+ seats. Isles lose roughly 1,000 seats.

Wang says they'll be in Nassau until 2015.

Wang will continue to be sole owner. The team's name won't change.

The Barclay's Center 25 yr lease is ironclad, no opt out clause.

I highly doubt a retrofit is possible. The entire roof structure has been designed and built, and to add on another 100 feet of length is not easily done.

25 year lease with one goal being underneath the 2nd deck?? That is weird for the long term. Phx had this set up at their first arena AWA, and man did it look strange on TV.

When Phx owner built AWA, he clearly said he wanted a basketball only arena, he did not want hockey. (Phx fans will remember the details...?) I wonder if Barclay's situation is similar?

Never understood the intense hatred for Wang given that he is clearly committed to the area. It would have been much easier and far more lucrative for him to sell or move the team. I understand his management decisions have been terrible, but still, I'd take him over the owners of the old Hartford and North Stars teams easily.
