Wang's ownership has coincided with some awful personnel decisions, on the ice, in the front office and behind the bench.

But PuckShmucks question remains - why the hate on Winnipeg by a few posters?
So what if the MTS Centre holds 15500 - its sold out for next 5 years with a 8000 person waiting list, at some of the highest ticket prices in the NHL, filled with some of the most rabid fans you can find.

More than half the league would do anything for that kind of support.

The comments shouldn't be directed to Winnipeg, but to Phoenix and other teams that can't half-fill a building without offering free hotdogs and t-shirts.

People should think more closely before commenting about supposedly "small market" teams - there are biggest hockey markets in some small cities than there are in large population centres in the southern US.

The Brooklyn Islanders (or whatever they're called) will do just fine in an arena this size - the large market and the fanbase is there, as are the transportation links.

Good for them for moving out of the old barn. EDIT - and staying in the NYC area.

Still geographically on Long Island.

But I'd love a name change to the Brooklyn Dodgers!!!

Or how about "The New York Hockey Giants"

Deal completed Tuesday. No reason to wait (longer than Wednesday) to make announcement.

The ones I've seen haven't been hating on Winnipeg, just using their arena as an example that a team with good support can manage just fine in a smaller building. I thought they were being complimentary to Winnipeg.

Brooklyn is better than learning French.

They stay in the local market, get probably the nicest arena in the league to help attract free agents, and will get an influx of big city cash and media. It's a win all around unless you work for the Town of Hempstead and realize that millions of tax revenue just walked out your door.

LGI baby, LGI.

My assumption is they labelled the courtside sections in those areas with those numbers...

He wasn't referring to the fact they are long island. The i from islanders in the logo points to the location of nassau county colisuem within Long island. He was inferring the logo would have to be changed since Brooklyn is in a different part of long island (plus the fact the NY city part of the island isn't in the logo).

I'm sure the players are going to LOVE having to make that drive from their Manhattan and Brooklyn condos every day.

They'll live on Long Island (guaranteed). Just like 90% of the Ranger players live in Westchester near their practice facility. Just like 90% of the Mets live out on the Island. Just like 90% of the Yankees live west of the city.

A few players lived in the city when playing for the Islanders (Sopel comes to mind), but its pretty rare, and i don't expect that to change.

With this news I wonder if now the NHL would have no choice to add another team in Markham, Ontario or anywhere else in the Toronto area? Personally speaking if that happened I would still support the Maple Leafs no matter what. However since the Islanders will be closer in distance to the Rangers does this mean the NHL would be closer to adding another team in Toronto?

Ah. So we've changed our worries from 'Will we lose our team?' to 'Whatever will the players do with a commute like the rest of us shmoes?'. It's been a good day. (Or a bad day. Depends on your perspective.)

Cheers,

Dan-o

The Devils are already just as close to the Rangers. Don't think it makes a difference either way.

You know, I've been an Isles fan since the Bossy days (childhood hero), but never noticed that "i".

The baseball team references were in jest!

The question is the ticket price gonna be the same?

I don't know what you're talking about. East Rutherford is not suburban...

How would this have any bearing on anything? Prudential is ~10-12 miles from MSG

I don't see how it's any different from the Rangers practicing in Westchester.

Great news for Isles fans. Still on Long Island. Just hope for you guys that Jay Z doesn't get any "artistic" ideas and **** the logo around with.
