Awesome news. They should come up with a creative name (Brooklyn Brawlers!). I think this can lead to a bit of a resurgence for the franchise. Maybe Jay-Z can bring in some more mainstream fans, too.

Lol, yeah they will practice locally by that time. Someone said something about a rink called aviator or something. Don't know what it is but said it can be used for the practice rink.

maybe not changing the logo still allows for a bit of tweaking.

Also, as a non-Nassau County resident. I hope the NVMC will rot to the ground so all the Garden City residents will have to look at that eye sore for the rest of their existence. Can't see that area coming back from this. You reap what you sow.

Also, I'm impressed that Wang kept this relatively quite like he said he would.

Brooklyn is a suburb of New York City just like Markham is a suburb of Toronto. So if Brooklyn can support the Islanders and the NHL is allowing this move, it might give some people the idea that the same thing could work in Markham.

Brooklyn is in New York City. Manhattan and Brooklyn have the same mayor, its not really a suburb. There are some suburban-type of areas but its not considered a suburb just another borough of NYC. There are a lot of things in place here that are not in place in the Toronto area: a) an established fanbase, b) territory fees already paid c) TV contract done d) arena built

The logo and the name will remain unchanged for the time being. I'm sure we'll see a 3rd jersey 'Brooklynized' in the near future though.

I skate at aviator sometimes. Its a nice rink (they have two rinks) but its no Iceworks. And I don't think they have the necessary off-ice facilities to make it work (NHL quality lockerrooms, NHL quality gym).

I'd bet that they'll stay at Iceworks as their main practice facility.

Maybe a black and white jersey with "JIGGA' written horizontally?

Thats more like the relationship Newark has with NYC because Brooklyn IS part of NYC. Nassau is a suburb of NYC.

Jay-Z owns a 1% stake in the Nets, he has no ownership of either the Barclays Center or the Islanders.

True enough. That's kind of odd, I suppose. Doesn't seem like they're embracing their new home much. And that logo doesn't even include Brooklyn in the map. Although it will definitely help to retain the Long Island fanbase and history, which is cool.

Actually, he owns a very tiny percentage of Barclays Center. Less than a tenth of a percent, but he does own a part of it..

Islanders owner Charles Wang said he had received “more than one” offer to move the Islanders out of state. Bettman said the offers were not taken seriously because the Islanders’ lease was not up.

The NHL doesn't need to do anything to "allow" the move. They are building an arena within their market, no different than the Devils going from East Rutherford to Newark, or the Kings going from Inglewood to downtown.

Shoulder patch on the home/away, and a third jersey. They need to eliminate black from any concepts though. I think if you're gonna do a third jersey and Brooklyn it up, you downplay the orange and go blue/white heavy.

Do you really need to cater to the Brooklyn fans with the team name when they just got the team in their backyard? You keep the name, logo and colors to retain the fans in Nassau.

So what happens to Nassau after 2015? Are the people happy that the Islanders will move? They must be i guess because they have stopped Wang every chance they had to stop his plans for a new arena.

I guess the county is gonna lose alot of money when the team is gone.

If a team moved to Brooklyn, I would adopt them as a second team, just because they're a team from Brooklyn.

Not shocked to hear that. I'm sure that, in the past five years, Balsillie, TNSE, and Quebecor have at least quietly reached out to him, and probably several others from other markets we're not even aware of.

I'm surprised it happened this quick. And with such secrecy. And I think it's a great move too. Nassau County had their shot, more than enough of them. Couldn't get it done.

Brooklyn is becoming kind of an in-thing again. This will be exciting to watch unfold.

I think, like the Nets, they'll re-brand everything except the name. New logo, new uniforms, new colors. The works.
