If I didn't list where you live, sorry for living in an insignificant town .
And just to clarify, by "Upstate," I'm only referring to any part of New York State that is north of Westchester.

Of all the people I know who are hockey fans, there are a considerably larger number of Rangers fans than Devils fans.
Same here, and I was just about to post something similar. Of the people that I come across around here it seems that many are NYR fans, as opposed to NJD fans in NNJ.
Now you'll have to contend with the angry folks from Western NY.
If there are any Ranger fans in WNY, I would be shocked.
The Rangers have never been on tv there (I dont think) and Sabres fans are pretty diehard.
Utica has gotten MSG/Rangers since the late 60s (says my father). They only started showing the Sabres in Utica on MSG in 2006, so figure that one out. 40+ years vs 6?
Even growing up in Utica and playing youth hockey, pretty much everyone was a Ranger fan. All of us. After that was Devils because of the Utica Devils. Brodeur played here at the Aud (where they filmed Slap Shot). Sabres fans come in at a distant third.
The NHL is trying to play catchup I guess showing the Sabres here.

I'm originally from western NY and there is a fair number of rangers fans. While the Sabres dominate there's a contingent of people who grew up with the Rangers or Toronto to choose from. Nationalism won out. Also, don't forget that the rangers AHL team used to be in Binghamton.
