The Ottawa Senators are pleased to announce that the club has acquired defenseman Tyler Cuma from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Chris Wideman.

"We felt that Tyler could use a change and that bringing him back to the city he played junior for could be just the spark he needs to get his career back on track. We look forward to watching him in Binghamton for the remainder of the year."

Confirmed. We hope Tyler finds success in Ottawa. We believe that even though it didn't work out in Minnesota, he can go back to his hometown to find his game.

Bird of a different feather: Perry traded to Pens

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that they have traded former Hart trophy winner Corey Perry to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In exchange for the former 50 goal scorer, the Ducks receive C Brandon Sutter, LW Tyler Kennedy, D Simon Despres, D Joe Morrow, 2012 1st round pick D Olli Maataa, LW Beau Bennett, RW Tom Kuehnackel, and C Matt Murray. Anaheim will also receive Pittsburgh's 1st and 3rd round choices in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

"This was a trade that when it was presented to us, was very hard to turn down or look at other offers, GM Chris Regier said in a statement. While its always tough to lose a player like Corey, with his stats and his general play, we feel we have set ourselves up quite nicely for the future."

Regier was also equally happy to add to his young core, particularly on the blueline.

"If you look at the current core of our blueline, with guys like Cam (Fowler), Luca (Sbisa), and the vets like Allen, Souray, Beauch and Lyds, we feel weve have added some needed youth and flexibility. To add 3 guys the caliber of Maata, Despres and Morrow to that core, with Hamptus Lindholm on the way next season, were very happy with the future of our blueline.

Regier also likes what the move does to the current crop of forwards, particularly the skill set of C Brandon Sutter.

"We eyed Brandon from the start. Hes a hard-working, skilled player that we really feel can be a top 6 forward in this league."

Regier said that Sutter, Kennedy, Despres and possibly Maata could all be headed to the Ducks as soon as tonight. While Morrow, Murray, Kuehnackel and California native Beau Bennett will report to AHL Norfolk

@HeleneStJames

Regier also updated status of Selanne and Getz #ducks

Teemu: "We had a deal, he turned it down. He will not be moved and we are Ok with that"

Getz: "Weve spoken to his agent, ball is in their court"

Matta, Depres, Morrow, 1st, Bennett, Kuehnackel and Murray. AND Sutter. AND Kennedy. .. Plus a 3rd for good measure

IR, do you have a 2nd account playing Pittsburgh? I didn't know anyone else treated their prospects like you.

Detroit made a compelling offer for Errand were quite willing to add but that is a lot of value coming back. We understand why Pity made the move, there isn't a wing in the league that brings a better combination of skill, will, and effort than Perry.

That's basically 6 1st round picks (Sutter, Despres, Maata, Bennett, Morrow, 2013 1st) + more for one guy.... now that's going for it.

COYOTES ACQUIRE ALL-STAR GOALIE

In a move that slipped slightly under the radar, the Phoenix Coyotes acquired the rights to multiple-award winner Tim Thomas from the Boston Bruins, sending the B's prospect Maxim Goncharov and a conditional 2014 draft pick.

Thomas, who is on leave for the 2012-13 season, has a collection of accolades incluing 2 Vezina trophies, a Conn Smythe, William Jennings, Roger Crozier award...and a Stanley Cup ring leading Boston to the Cup two short seasons ago.

"When you have a chance to acquire possibly the best goalie in the NHL for the last several years, you take a chance on it. Mike Smith has been a revelation and we belive will lead us into the playoffs in 2013, from there may the best man win. We wish Maxim luck in Boston as he badly needed a change of scenary"

President Mitt Romney was asked for comment on the Yotes acquiring the politically out-spoken Goalie, and the commander-in-chief voiced his support for the move.
