can either of them shoot? it would make for a pretty agile pp assuming one could shoot the puck

Guess that depends on Cody Franson.

Gardiner can definitely shoot. He has a very accurate shot, and it seems to have picked up some heat this season.

Can't comment on Rielly. Haven't seen enough of him.

not sure that it matters. no way phaneuf ever comes off the top PP unit. he'll always be the shooter.

Rielly's wrister is accurate too. Not sure how powerful or accurate his slap shot is though.

But yeah when it comes to the PP the primary shooter on the point will be Phaneuf.

Remember, he's just a kid, playing in a kids league. Let's see how this translates. By the looks of it, from the what is your job thread, I'm quite a bit older than most, and I've been there, seen that many times over. Call it Cautiously optimistic.
We have not drafted a player with his skating and skill set all together since .....well never!

The first time I saw him skate I was "wow" this was as a Major Bantam. Then I got to watch him play and he controls the pace of the game and explodes. The goal he scored last night, I have saw him do this many times....catch his opponents off guard and exploded with unmatched speed to create a scoring chance. His best attribute besides his skating is his on ice vision and high hockey IQ. He is a great passer. He is currently playing on a below average team with young goaltending and getting major minutes yet is a plus player.

We as Leaf fans have every reason to be excited.....best player we have drafted in a very long time!

Rielly feeding Dion or Finn is something we can look forward to. I think this is going to be the real strength of Morgan's game, tremendous vision and playmaking skills.

Morgan's Coach Mike Stothers was just on Hockey Central and when he was ask to compare him to a player he made the comparison of Brian Leetch. Mike played with Leetch.

I agree, he said both had/have the ability to skate the puck out of trouble and both very physically strong. Along with the obvious skills and high hockey IQ. A great interview.

As I've said in this topic before, he's such a great coach. We're lucky Morgan plays for Mike and Moose Jaw. High praise from such a good hockey mind.

Stylewise he does remind of Leetch...I hate to use Leetch as a comparison for any prospect but that's who he reminds me of the most.

They don't skate nearly the same IMO. Niedermayer was more of a deceptive skater while Rielly has great wheels and agility. I'd agree with the Leetch comparison.

Pretty pointless showing 82 game pace after just 13 games. Even more pointless since no CHL leagues play 82 games (the WHL plays 72, the OHL and QMJHL play 68).

Some eye-popping plays by Morgan. Nice stretch pass at 2:41

1:08, Rielly comes out of nowhere to get a breakaway chance. It's almost frightening to see how fast he is.

I still don't understand why you do that. Extrapolating to 82 games doesn't serve as any kind of reference point when you're talking about junior players.

When I first read it I was like "100+ points as a defenceman? Holy crap!".... then I realized it was over 82 games... and I know that lots of guys could get 100 points if they played 12 more games than they do.

Just confusing and pointless, IMO.

Let's just be a bit cautious regarding comparing him to scotty Niedermayer.
