Didn't know there were enough Ducks fans to invade the main board.

First time i've heard that beating a No. 1, 2, and 3 seed, including the President's Trophy winner without dropping a road game to any of them as a No. 8 seed is an easy path.

I'll have to keep that one in mind for when I bet on playoff match-ups from now on though.

The source relayed some details which are in his article

http://www.insiderrumors.com/2012/no...ons-discussed/

According to him, the crux of the meeting was this:

•Fehr has proposed to introduce a concept similar to a “luxury tax” in some aspects. In order for owners to honor current contracts, the richest 8 teams would pay the portion of the salaries that would otherwise constitute the “make whole” provision. That way, the teams losing $$ would not suffer and the rich owners, who are against the lockout anyway, would pay a little more. In exchange, their teams would be allowed to slightly go over the salary cap; proportionately to the portion of the “make whole” they would pay off. This would be a temporary measure which would be removed once the 50/50 revenue share would be reached, under option 1 or 2 of the initial NHLPA proposal through year 3 of the new CBA, due to revenue growh. Afterwards, the hard cap would be reinstated. l

And what is that going to change?

Bettman's job is to represent the wishes of the owners. If he retires another lawyer will come in and be told to say the same things.

This won't be over until the players and more importantly their representatives pull their heads out of their butts.

Bettman's not the problem, its the players.

Once they realize they cannot win this, they will submit, just like the NBA players did last year, and we can play hockey again.

Owners own all the cards in this game. Game. Set. Match. It's over. Period.

More than half the owners actually save money by not playing.

There is no multi Billion dollar T.V. contract to miss out on.

The sooner the players realize this, the better. Also I believe (personal opinion) the losing money owners are not the driving force.

The have's are, Toronto,Pitt,MTL,Philly; don't want to subsidize the league.

Exactly. The players want Toronto, Montreal and NY to give all of their profits to the rest of the NHL so that they can keep their 57% share. The same 57% they received from that "horrible" CBA that they were forced to accept.

There won't be a deal until the NHLPA members revolt and force Fehr to negotiate a deal.

I thought the problem was the big contracts paid out to free agents? Who approved those contracts again?

Who missed training camp - holding out because he felt he needs to be paid 7mio$?

Who cries the most on twitter and makes $ on every contract signed (up to 10% of the contract salary) just for sending text messages to his clients after games?

It always amazes me on how much hate Bettman gets...and yet he understands that he will be the focal point of that hate, as much as he has said, its part of the job description.

But the bigger issue is that the owners and players are fighting over money and control, and yet Bettman stands to lose nothing...other than his reputation in all of this.

Explain to me again why you don't like the guy? I think fans are quick to want to blame someone but not think it through.

If you did think it through, you will see that the players union is the one holding all this up. They can't possibly win; some players have even gone public saying that can't win. Fehr has to realize the only thing he can do is get SOME concessions out of the owners as bargaining chips.

That's it. It's over already, the players (and apparently, some fans who just can't stand Bettman) just haven't realized it yet.

You apparently are not aware that hockey players are indeed special, and they deserve to be treated better than football players, basketball players, and baseball players.

No need questioning this either, it's just the way it is.

Oh do tell, what did the mighty midget (who isn't worth a dime over $3M a season) have to say?

...and in other news the owners just took their 50/50 offer off the table. The players are going to lose this by a couple of touchdowns at least. Hell, we may be looking at an Oregonian-esque rout.

Bettman isn't the problem, the owners are. They are unwilling to control their own spending habits, period.

Now they want sympathy because they lost money under a CBA that they claimed would fix the long term health of the league and reign in the ever-inflating ticket costs to the world's greatest fans!

The players are the only reason the NHL over 95% of all tickets were sold to NHL games last season, not the owners. The players allowed the NHL to negotiate a 2bil TV contract. The players put their immediate and long-term health on the line every night, not the owners. They deserve any money that they can get.

Each league is a completely different from the other. It's ignorant to claim a 50-50 split in one situation is anything remotely close to a 50-50 split in another without looking into what defines revenue in each situation.
