Not to take anything away from Buff State, but Penn State is still pretty young as a D1 program. It's a good win for the Bengals, but it's not like Penn State is Minnesota or one of the other big college programs yet.

If memory serves, this is Penn State's first year as a D1 team. And I echo Pondslider's comments.

Me, I'm also a Buff State alum...and as far as their football program goes, the only time it was as good as it is now was in the late 80s-early 90s.

Just an FYI, the Buff State player that was injured will be fine. He's out for a while, but no neck or head injuries.

Buff State's goaltender is ridiculous. He shut Penn State down. Timely power play goals and great goaltending are what won this game for them.

Buffalo State hasn't been all that great these past few years. They've shown flashes here and there though. Maybe this season will be different.

Hey, at least the RIT win was the biggest in program history, that's gotta mean something right?

Well, for me, their biggest win is still the 6-2 win over UNH to get to the 2010 Frozen Four. Upsetting established D-I programs in non-conference play is always a plus though.

Yeah, no it wasn't. Even if they swept Michigan it wouldn't have been the best weekend in program history (that would be beating #2 Denver 2-1 and then #9 (I think) New Hampshire the next day 6-2 to get to the Frozen Four.

Last year's team, as disappointing as it was, arguably had a bigger win against eventual National runners-up Ferris State in route to winning Vermont's midseason tournament as well (they beat Lake Superior State either the day before or the day after, I forget which).

RIT has a history of beating big time programs - they have an overall winning record against Cornell, beat Minnesota in their 2nd year of D-1, the aforementioned wins over Denver and UNH....obviously beating Michigan was awesome, but frankly losing to PSU takes a ton of luster off of that.

Yeah, sorry, was not clear, allow me to re-phrase:

Hey, at least RIT participated in the greatest victory in Penn State program history. So that's gotta mean something for their program right?

Edit: I'm a PSU grad, was trying to rub a little salt in the wound. Failed, you know, cause we lost to BuffState.

Great to hear that he will be okay.

I graduated from Buff State in 2010, and while I loved to go to games it was tough to watch them at times. Good to hear they are on the up, and when I hopefully move back to Buffalo I can't wait to get to some more games.

TWCSC Rochester will be televising the Robert Morris-RIT hockey game tonight starting at 7:00 pm ET.
No LIVE coverage is planned for TWCSC Buffalo - they will be showing programs like Future Phenoms,
Varsity Rivals, Bulls-Eye, Bengals Magazine and Auto Racing instead. (Wonder if Bengals Magazine -
8:00 pm ET-8:30 pm ET - will have highlights of the mens hockey win over Penn State?) TWCSC Buffalo
will be televising the game on Sunday at 1:00 pm ET. LOL!

TWCSC Rochester will be televising all of RITs home games this season with a majority of them being LIVE.
No word on how many of those games will be televised LIVE or Tape Delayed on TWCSC Buffalo. (I least
hope the ones vs Canisius and Niagara will be shown and if possible they will be shown LIVE too.)

In other local college hockey news - congrats to former Sabre - Adam Mair - on joining the Canisius College
Hockey Staff. He was named Director Of Player Development by head coach Dave Smith on Monday. http://www.gogriffs.com/ViewArticle....B_OEM_ID=20500

It's my understanding that all RIT home games will be shown live either on the main TWSC or on the overflow channel (ch. 98 IIRC)

From reading through this thread it seems like RIT has a pretty strong following in Rochester. Color me a jealous Golden Griffin.

EDIT: I finally noticed the years needed changing in the thread title.

Probably a consequence of having no Division 1 programs in Rochester. If you want D-1 sports here, it's RIT Hockey or nothin' (of course, being a hockey board helps as well )

Syracuse basketball and football have an extremely large presence in Rochester as well.

Its very impressive to see 10K watching RIT play Penn State. It can't see that many folks coming out to watch Canisius at FNC. Its also embarrassing that we don't have our own rink and have to play at Buff State.

Canisius and Air Force tied 1-1 - Taylor Law knocks home a rebound late second period to tie it up for the Griffins.
Tony Capobianco made 17 saves in net. Kyle De Laurell scored the Falcons goal in the first period.

The game came to a scary halt with 2:29 left in the second period. Canisius center Matthew Grazen hit George Michalke III from behind, with a loud crack echoing through the arena as Michalke’s face mask crashed into the glass. The junior from outside Cleveland immediately fell backward as if unconscious and was motionless for about a dozen seconds. When Michalke tried to get to his feet, he fell to the ice again. Athletic trainers from both teams and off-ice personnel all came to his aid, applying towels to his bloody nose and eye while he kicked his feet in obvious discomfort.

During the 10-minute delay while Michalke was readied for a stretcher, one of the Air Force coaches walked by the Canisius bench after checking on his player and screamed and pointed. Grazen was given a major penalty for hitting from behind and a game misconduct. The Canisius/Air Force benches were given unsportsmanlike minors.

Another couple of losses for RIT...6-4 at home in their conference opener against Robert Morris (just the 3rd regular season home conference loss for their senior class) and then 6-3 at Colgate.

Hopefully it's just youth and growing pains, but their defense is terribad right now.

Just a reminder that the Canisius-Minnesota game that is being played this afternoon will be televised - LIVE - on Fox Sports Atlantic starting at 2:00 pm ET. Sabres prospect Christian Isackson will be playing for Minnesota. If you want to catch the first period of RITs loss to Robert Morris before switching to the Canisius-Minnesota game - you can do so as TWC Sports Channel Buffalo will be showing that game starting at 1:00 pm ET. Speaking of Canisius and RIT - their game on November 10 will be LIVE on both TWC Sports Channel Buffalo and Rochester - 7:00 pm ET start for that one.

Minneapolis, Minn. - A tally 12 seconds into the game was the only score as the second-ranked Minnesota Gophers edged the Canisius College hockey team on Sunday afternoon, 1-0, in front of 7,876 fans at Mariucci Arena. The loss drops the Griffs 1-4-1 on the season with the nationally-ranked Gophers improving to 4-1-0.

Minnesota earned the one-goal victory despite a strong effort from junior netminder Tony Capobianco. The junior finished the contest with 41 saves on the night to keep the Griffs within striking distance of the No. 2 Gophers.

The Gophers wasted no time finding the back of the net, striking just 12 seconds into the contest. Kyle Rau tipped in Jake Parenteau's shot from the top of the face-off circle for the early 1-0 Minnesota lead.

Minneapolis - Rookie goaltender Adam Wilcox played perfectly from start to finish on Sunday afternoon to earn his first career shutout as the No. 2 Minnesota men's hockey team topped Canisius 1-0 in nonconference action at Mariucci Arena.

Wilcox backstopped the Gophers past the Golden Griffins, making all 20 saves on the day to improve to 3-0-0 on the season. The freshman from South St. Paul, Minn., turned away a flurry of saves in the final minutes after Canisius pulled Tony Capobianco in favor of the extra attacker. Capobianco also put together a stellar performance in net for the Golden Griffins, making 41 saves on 42 shots.

Minnesota (4-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 WCHA) came out of the gates in full force as Kyle Rau tipped Jake Parenteau's shot past Capobianco just 12 seconds into the contest. Raus' goal - his second of the year - was also assisted on by Nick Bjugstad.

OK, so how come there's been no love for Niagara so far? They're currently 2-2-3 on the season and 1-0-0 in the AHA.

G Carsen Chubak got named Atlantic Hockey player of the week for his 1-0-1 record last week, the win being a 2-0 shutout of Clarkson.

Connecticut rolls into Dwyer Arena for a 2 game set this Friday and Saturday.

The Atlantic Hockey Association announced on Thursday that sophomore forward Matthew Grazen of the Canisius College hockey team has received an additional seven-game suspension for a checking from behind penalty on Oct. 25. (LS: For a recap of the incident - see post #70)

In addition to his one-game disqualification penalty served on Oct. 28, Grazen will miss the series against Clarkson (Nov. 3-4), games against Robert Morris (Nov. 9), RIT (Nov. 10) and Niagara (Nov. 16) as well as the series at Air Force (Feb. 15-16).

USCHO.com Article - http://www.uscho.com/2012/11/01/atla...itional-games/

Atlantic Hockey Weekend Preview - Canisius and Niagara -
http://www.atlantichockeyonline.com/...dpreview110112

Canisius will host a pair of non-conference contests on Saturday and Sunday, as Clarkson travels to the Buffalo State Arena. The Griffs are sixth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 1.67 goals per game. They have allowed 2 or fewer goals in five of the six contests this season and have allowed 1 goal in each of their last two outings. Canisius holds a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series against Clarkson, with the Griffs and the Golden Knights last meeting in November 2008. Canisius went 0-1-1 last weekend, picking up a 1-1 tie against Air Force on Thursday, while dropping a 1-0 decision to 2nd-ranked Minnesota on Sunday.

Connecticut will travel to Western New York and face Niagara in a two-game series at Dwyer Arena. The Huskies are looking for their first win of the season, while the Purple Eagles are trying to get over the .500 mark for the first time this season. The last time these two teams faced-off at Dwyer Arena, both teams picked up wins, Connecticut, 8-5, and Niagara, 4-3. Connecticut went 0-1-1 last weekend, falling to Holy Cross 2-1 on Friday night, while earning a 2-2 tie against then 8th-ranked Union on Saturday. Niagara went unbeaten last weekend against Clarkson, defeating the Golden Knights, 2-0 on Friday and then earning a 4-4 tie on Saturday.
