I hate to keep harping on it...but with that video it really doesn't look like the front row of the 200s is any closer to the ice. Higher up, sure. But place your pointer at the first row of the old 300s at the start of the video...at the end you're still pointing to the exact same spot...just a bit lower than previously. Am I delusional? lol

Will MSG be offering any tours of the new seats for season ticket holders before the season starts?

If you call your rep he should be able to arrange one.

That is because the lighting system still needs to be balanced and set up for hockey. While certain alignment can be done to each individual spot with the base floor in place, the reflections on the ice cannot be reproduced...part of the reason why the ice was put in place so early. Starting the night I was there (Wednesday), they were in the process of adjusting A-ring lighting. (FYI: There are three rings to the roof - the innermost ring closest to the scoreboard is the A-Ring, the C-ring is the outermost ring above the middle/back of the 200 level.) If you look at the picture from the Madison Suites, you can see the A-ring of lights is lit but the B-ring is not lit, and that is directly above the shadow seen on the ice.

The 3 rings and the side lightning I mentioned were all used for hockey. The lights that are indented into every other ceiling panel are used only for bball and center stage events. I always noticed that the lights in the 3 rings weren't all on during hockey, I don't know if it was intentional or not but they definitely weren't all in use. So you're saying all the lights in the 3 rings will be used for hockey in replacement of the side lighting?

If that's the case it still wont be ideal because you're using a circular arrangement to illuminate a rectangle. Even if you angle each light to illuminate every inch of light it'll cause funky shadows because of the geometry and Tim Thomas will blame it when he gives up 6 goals

They won't necessarily use every light of every ring - I do not know the exact combination that is being used, but I will look into it. My point was that the shadows being shows on the ice were greatly exaggerated as the A-Ring lights were the only lights being shot onto the ice surface that night, thus making it look like there were more shadows than usual

Did they get around to installing those hydraulic lifts under the ice? The ones they said they'll use to tilt the ice a few degrees against the opposing team.

Is the ice tilt meant to make it harder to skate up ice, or does it create a sharper angle at which the lighting hits the goaltender's eyes?

I dont see why we can't have both. Make home advantage worth while!

Now that's a home ice advantage.

Construction (at least on the upper bowl) should be pretty much wrapped up now. Any idea if MSG will be airing a "transformation" show again this year?

Cool. Hopefully I'll be there before then.

Pretty dark in there today (well October 4.)

I thought that the LED ring was going to wrap around the entire arena?

It will...sort of. It won't happen until next year and, according to this rendering, won't wrap around facing of the upper bowl.

Instead, it'll wrap around the facing of the bridges/west balcony; the remainder of the LED ring being installed right under the wheelchair seating in the 200 level (where the MSG Network logos are). 2 more ribbon boards will be added on the backside facing of the bridges with game info for the fans sitting high up on the 200 level that can't see GardenVision.

I still believe the ribbon board should wrap around right above the mid-level suites. Unless it interferes with the TV cameras during broadcasts or distracts the players at that height, it makes no sense to put it so high up.

I know that's an older picture but I still get a chuckle out of the goal being scored by Gomez with assists from Avery and Drury.

I get a kick out of the fact that the Flyers apparently decided to wear Sabres jerseys for the game

Paul Mara.... Notice all the Gomez jerseys in the crowd and Gomez/Drury's name on scoreboard? This rendering was done before McD joined the team.
