It's not a "screw up" dude. Not at all. I've said that I understand why they did it, and I do.
But there is the idea that one side has to "win" and the other has to "lose." One side is "right" and the other is "wrong". The only "right" is that BOTH sides either "win" or "lose". The only "wrong" is making the discussion far more contentious than it needs to be. Bettman's a union-buster and Fehr is a hard-ass *****.
So if one side isn't going to remove themselves from "we must win" category the players are suppose to just let up and agree to any terms? and that goes vice versa. I hate Fehr and his weird looking/alien face.. but if bettman wants to bust the union the players shouldn't and won't just let that happen.

It most certainly could.....it happened in Wisconsin.
I think the NHL and players are both going to start feeling the wrath of the fans. I am past the point of being mad then encouraged now fully pissed they cant figure this out. The sport of hockey is bigger than these the owners and current players. As a season ticket holder I did my part - I paid the bill on time - and guess who takes the brunt of these asinine billionaires and millionaires - we do as do the people that work around the rinks and restaurants. Have you heard any owner or player comment on the people that rely on them for a living? The owners and players are both now hated. Congrats.

yes, the old saying 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'.....they can not skip another year 'the lack of trust' tag will haunt them, cut into their fan base, growth etc....I can see them losing upwards of 20% of their fanbase or potential fanbase forever...why follow a joke sport that takes years off every few years will be the thought
These owners sport will be ruined, tarnished, ridiculed- they can get away with this for a few months because only the diehards are paying attention- kids back to school, Fall sports is the biggest consumption of kids activities, football- especially college dominating markets, baseball, basketball- lot of distractions BUT once Thanksgiving comes hockey tickets for Christmas, interest picks up
I will be beyond shocked if they do this and still 100% believe they are doing the script and this will get resolved in November and my guess is they will get really into this right around Veterans Day.
You can say nope over- well, it will be in the hearts and minds of many of their fanbase...they (owners) are holding their breath now, not yet going into the garage and going for the cardon monoxide route

The owners no (because of the gag order) but both Daly and Bettman have. So have the Fehr brothers on the union side and several players that I know of have.
Cancelling the winter classic is a great way to appeal to fans.

I read this today on Puck Daddy from a "diehard" fan who says he is now transitioning to being a "casual" fan. I think it explains very well why the league and the players feel they can get away with this:

You're a fan, a fanatic, a person with such extreme zeal and enthusiasm for the NHL's product; you have begun acting like a drug addict. Well, if that is how you're going to behave, that is how the NHL will treat you. You/I/we are nothing more than drug riddled junkies looking for our next fix of NHL hockey and the NHL is happy to provide it to us

The nhlpa will probabley never dissolve or whatever.. Unions in sports are unfortunately some of the strongest unions in the world. Wish that helped more working people, but thats a political debate for another time.
So they were actually stupid enough to kiss off the Black Friday games. Please just cancel the season so that instead of holding out some hope we can begin to accept that there will not be a season.
