Ottawa Senators boast big group of talented forward prospects

The future of the Ottawa Senators looks bright. The Senators are considered to have one of the better pools of young talent in the NHL and, while some top draftees have recently cemented themselves on the Ottawa roster, most notably Erik Karlsson and Jared Cowen, there are many prospects on the verge of becoming solid NHL contributors in the near future. The club has quality and various skill-sets in all positions and has worked to draft where they previously had weak depth.

One of the top prospects on left wing is Matt Puempel, a first round pick in the 2011 draft.… read more

Dziurzynski and Sdao are more legitimate prospects than the article gave them credit for.

After the development camp, Tim Murray was talking about Sdao in high regards and mentioned that they felt he was ready to play in the AHL. He also indicated that he was one of the more impressive defensemen of the group.

Early on this season, Tim Murray, Luke Richardson and Paul MacLean have all raved about the performance of David Dziurzynski. Tim Murray also mentioned that the organization expects that he will be pushing for a spot fairly soon.

Also in regards to Stone, it seems like a near sure bet at this point that he will be a top nine forward. What this article failed to mention was his top end potential. His hockey IQ is off the charts and the way he plays and some of the plays he makes are somewhat reminiscent of Dany Heatley and Corey Perry. Now it remains to be seen whether or not he will reach that potential, but he does have first line star potential.

I specifically remember seeing DD at the prospect camp back in early July and I was kinda shocked out how much more skilled he was than I thought. His hands were not bad at all.

DD has been pretty impressive. Could find himself a gig as a bottom-6er in the NHL at this rate. Does a bit of everything: decent wheels, decent hands, can fight, can play physically.

What I really like besides Lehner, Silfv, Zibby and Stone are the home grown pospect Murray is acquiring. Players like Ceci, Pagueau, Boro, Brassard etc. Also hes creating a competitive but fun atmosphere for our prospects and our development staff is one of the best imo. How can our pool be overrated if everyone thinks we have strong prospect depth.

I think he's pretty well a lock to be a scoring forward. He goes obvious offensive skills and I think he's a surebet to be able to think the game fast enough to play against the best players. If he wasn't a high end shooting and passing threat, he might have a hard time being a checker with his stride. Guys like him don't get drafted unless they've got the ability to create offense, and we can now tell his hockey sense is probably his best quality.

Good article. Our team has drafted smart the past few seasons. Looking to see guys like Zibanejad, Stone, Puempel, Prince, Silfverberg, etc. making the team.

Did the article just say Ben Blood is not physical?

The title made me hope that we were getting bigger players & we are for the most part getting bigger as a team. I expect that Zibanejad, Stone, Grant, Dzuirzynski, Silfverberg, Noesen, Wiercioch, Lehner, Gryba, Blood & maybe Sdao to eventually make it to Ottawa & replace Condra, Alfredsson, Daugavins, Gonchar, Lundin & maybe Regin. Not only are we getting bigger, but we are also getting a little tougher too, which I like.
