The one thing I don't like about Seth Jones is he's almost a full year older than many of these other players - in fact, compared to Mackinnon, he's a month away from being a year older!
In the long run this isn't really an issue.
If I pick first overall I take Mackinnon, if second then Jones without a moment's hesitation, third Barkov. I predict this is how the draft will go down, book it!
Seems like Barkov has slowed down a bit lately. Kinda had to see it coming though.
Yeah, can't say I'm surprised. Tappara is a mediocre team and plays a slow, defensive game, Barkov's supporting cast isn't hopeless but he's not really getting high end help either. He's still a 17 year old being asked to carry a team of adults, and you can tell he's exhausted.
Still, 3 games without points isn't anything concerning.
It's amazing how this year the Q is going to be well represented..for once. Next year, it's looking to be really but really bad lol
2014 draft looks weaker overall than 2013 and although this won't be as good a year for the Q as this year, I can see a few interesting prospects developing into top-2 rounds material such as Pépin, Audette, Barbashev, Koys, and some interesting defencemen like Maheux, MacIntyre, Neil, Leblanc, etc.
There were 20 years olds who went late in round 1 (Pearson) and mid round 2 (Heard) in 2012, so I could see him going as high as round 3.
Mallet went in the 2nd round as well, but that was a real weak draft. This year crop is excellent, so yeaa 3rd or 4th round i would say at this point is fair for Lipon. Kamloops is a ridiculous team though
The more I watch Jason Dickinson the more I'd love for us to draft him. I think he's probably a late first round at this point, but he could be a big riser.
He's picked up 8 goals and 8 assists in 13 games so far for Guelph.
Dickinson is a 6'2" left winger who knows how to score. He plays with a bit of an edge, but I'd like to see him be more consistent in the physical department. He's got a laser of a wrist shot and has great vision too. He can score from just about anywhere on the ice. He can finish from unleashing a wrister from the top of the circle or by banging home the puck in front of the net.
KURT ETCHEGARY is out for the season. What risk do you see his injuries to be? And to which round would you consider drafting him since he'll lost this season? I find the guy pretty interesting despite the injuries unless a doctor tells me to not touch the guy....
But he's the type of guy that if he plays within his limits (read: Don't fight, especially not big guys....), might make a head scout look like a genius for taking a risk choosing him. Still wonder which round though.....

Maybe he can will drop to Montreal like Collberg did last year.
A lot of fans say they want us to move up in the draft.
I think the idea is that if we package a 25th and a 35th overall we can move up to 15th overall.
The odds are not great.
We really need to be in the top 10 or early teens. If this goes to a lottery we will be in the 20's and have no shot at Drouin. That being said I also don't want to see us waste our wealth of 2nd round picks to do it.
Tough choices but the draft is so deep this year I think we win any way.
I'd like to see a move up in the draft. The organization already has the depth players, now it needs another elite player.
This.
I'd give up our entire draft and then some, if necessary, to land a first line talent.
Our lineup has two major holes at 1st line W and #2D. This is the draft where I'd like to see us go all-in to fill one of them. Then use some combination of Plekanec/Emelin/Bourque and minor assets in a trade to fill the other.

While the odds of landing Playmaker09(Drouin)aren't sure yet, offering up the entirety of the Habs draft + is an exaggeration I hope. With the depth of this draft year and the Habs buffet of 2nd's only outdone by Columbus's three 1st's,the odds of success are almost assured.I too hope Bergevin and Co.manage to acquire a top five pick as I do every year and each year seems more imperative.Galchenyuk's play just whets the appetite for a lottery pick evermore it seems, but when looking at the QMJHL's 2013 draft talent, the call has never been so loud and clear!Names like Drouin,Carrier, Mantha,Gauthier not to forget MacKinnon,Jones,Barkov,Lindholm etc.All the fans can do is leave our hopes in the capable hands of the new management team, the best I have seen since Sam Pollock's era of the 1960's and 1970's Habs teams.Go Habs Go!
