OEL is already the #1 on a top 4 team in the league...
Just because Kane was picked 1st overall, it doesnt mean he is a franchise player. He simply does not produce enough offense to be a franchise player. His overall game is lacking as well, which greatly diminishes his overall value.

Chicago loses a ton of their dynamic element with the hypothetical departure of Kane. And please don't try and suggest OEL adds more of that than Kane's leaving gives up

I would say both teams stand pat and do not make this trade. And that's okay. Just because a proposal was made doesn't mean either team has to take the deal.
If I'm sitting in Phoenix and working as their GM... I'm not taking offers on OEL unless it's an absurd amount. Kane's not that absurd amount to me when I could move Yandle and get something very similar.

Yeah.. I still don't see how that is downgrading him. Because I won't accept the trade? There are tons of trades across the league where value matches up but it's just not worth it.
I will say it again - the main reason to not make this trade is because how rare of a player OEL is AND the fact they can move Yandle if need be to find that big time winger.
At that point, there is no downgrading Kane. I'm just sharing how important I feel OEL is to any team in the NHL.
He is all offense, no defense. And he only had 66 points last year. Based on last year, average 1st liner is generous. Now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he isn't as bad as he showed last year. Average 1st liner.

Seems fair to judge him on one rough season. Not like he put up 70+ points every year prior, including an 88 point season and playoff performance on par with his teammate who won the Conn Smythe.

OEL played 26 min/game in the playoffs, Yandle played 21:30. I'd say it's OEL.
Yandle had a down year. OEL played great the last 3 months and was solid before that. I'm not knocking out 2 years of Yandle's excellent play just for that.
OEL can have the crown if he continues his progress, or if Yandle's down year is more than just a year.

Most Hawks say he was GOOD at centre.

Kane is not a top 20 forward in the league. OEL is a top 20 D with loads more potential. The value is not close.

He admitted that OEL was better last year, and Yandle had an off year. I'm not wrong, OEL was in fact the #1. When one guy plays almost 5 min more than next, how can you actually say that I'm wrong.
Also Yandle plays a purely offensive role. Maybe we just have a different definition of #1. The #1 should be an all around player, the one that plays most minutes.

Ryan is about on par, but scores more goals. Eberle was the 3rd most productive player in the league in terms of points per ice time, behind you guessed it, Crosby and Malkin.
Koivu is a 70 point player, just like Kane, and a terrific defensive player.
Backes is the #1 forward on a BETTER team than Chicago.
Staal is a 60-70 point forward with Selke caliber defense.

Kane had one good season. ONE. It's not what have you done for me lately. Kane has not been a consistent producer, and doesn't bring anything else to the table other than production. Forgive me for not buying into him being a superstar.
