Sounds like they are trying to make people panic so they get viewers, CNN does it.

Looks like I'm in the yellow but unless another earthquake hits I don't have much to worry about - I'm sitting atop the most elevated area in Port Coquitlam. Well above the flood plain.

Yeah, that just doesn't make sense.

Also looks like the entire coast from Alaska down south has been downgraded to an advisory.

No, it's apparently legitimate: http://ptwc.weather.gov/ptwc/text.ph...012.10.28.0613

Just wait till the tornadoes and the thunderstorms come. Ticking time bomb now.

Well, that part is probably just Global being stupid. But the warning for Hawaii is real.

Yeah, I don't doubt that...I'd just think it'd be more in line with the foot and a half type waves seen near where it happened.

Maybe this is where it came from:

http://www.thenorthernview.com/news/176134321.html

"Only an 8 foot rise in water level was observed in Sandspit, so by the time a wave, if any, reaches Prince Rupert it will be negligible," he told the Prince Rupert Northern View."

Don't know how an 8-foot rise merits an "only", though. Maybe the reporter misunderstood "0.8".

The earthquake happened when I was in the Orpheum for a concert. Guess I should be glad we didn't feel it here, or I would have been crushed by the chandelier.

The town has gone nuts. I was already planning a food an gas run before the quake, and had been out to walk the dogs. When I went after, it was like every car in Kitimat was on the road - loading up on food, emergency supplies and fuel.

Glad to hear everything will be alright for BC tonight.

I wish Hawaii the best. Not sure what they're going to see but I hope nobody is hurt.

I felt nothing while driving in Richmond, is that the reason for the poor drivers?

I wish. There will always be a high percentage of bad drivers in Richmond...

If it is, it's got to get through all of Vancouver first. Not so much as a jiggle from the earthquake here in south Burnaby.

If it's a real tsunami, wouldn't the waves hit places harder away from the epicenter? I have no idea how high these waves typically reach, but 7 feet doesn't seem that high.

In a rare fit of "too drunk to sleep", I totally missed the quake due to excessive drinking.

Once in a blue moon I guess, on both events.

Did it really feel like a 7.7?

I thought my desktop calender ended at 1999 thanks to the y2k bug.

Tsunami waves are not like those surf waves, meaning 7 footer crashes on the beach then youre done ....it means the whole freaking sea comes in 7 feet higher

Anyway, here in nyc were prepping for frankenstorm!

Can someone change the thread title to "Earthquake hits off north BC coast" so as not to scare those of us with family in the Lower Mainland? :S

(Nothing against you northerners, of course, Mr. Canucklehead!)
