A salary cap is a win for the players?

If the players lose out a season they lose massively, forget whats in the CBA, but they'll lose that as well considering: a) the owners profit is far less than what the players get collectively b) the owners could afford their hit far more than the average NHLer.

Just a question. How can Weber get paid a 13 million signing bonus when the maximum salary for a year will likely be 12.5 million?

Umm... because they lost/lose a year's worth of salary that they cannot ever earn back?

The max a player can make in a season is 20% of the cap

Using the previous CBA since that's when it was signed
70.2m * 20% = 14.04m

13m signing bonus and 1m salary

But the players claim they're willing to go 50/50. Bettman said the salary cap under their last offer would be 61 and change million. 20% of that is less than 13 million.

With the league saying $700M has been lost through November and assuming 5% growth of revenue each year and a six year long CBA we have now lost 3,1% of all revenue for this period.

Keep on truckin', Donald.

The contract was signed in context of the past CBA. Therefore, the salary cap rules still apply and Weber gets his $13 million for that year because it was signed while the cap was 65 or so million. The only way there's a "rollback" is if the next year there is a cap drop so that the percentages are balanced.

He signed it while the last CBA was in effect so until there's a new CBA, it goes by that.

The old CBA did not expire until 9/15. Weber signed his Offer Sheet and SPC while the old CBA was in effect. Under the old CBA, the Upper Limit was set at $70M (from 7/1 until the CBA expired on 9/15), which permitted a max salary + bonus of $14M. The 20% Max Salary limit is based on the Upper Limit when the SPC is signed. Weber signed his SPC and received his $13M Signing Bonus while the terms of the old CBA were still in effect - before the lockout and not subject to any subsequent escrow or rollback under a new CBA.

There is only 1 chance out of 30 it'll be a player on your favorite team tweeting really stupid stuff, so I guess it could work as rivalry building for hockey fans.

I wasn't aware that the owners were asking for 25% of the money in his wallet. Maybe that's why the NHLPA is refusing the NHL's proposals

These players just need to shut up. They sound so dumb for the most part. I would put a gag order on the players too if I was Fehr just like GB does. It's good for PR.

It's hilarious how the PA gets their jollies by spouting the same thing over and over again. "We let the players talk unlike GB and the owners!"

Hey, guess what? We as fans don't give a rats a** what comes out of anybodys mouth for the most part. Stay silent and get a deal done. Anything the players do say is just pure entertainment for us to laugh at.

@alexialawson understood. Do you see your family 2 maybe 3 times a year like I do? Friends as well?

he should really visit his family and friends more during his 3-6 month yearly vacation...

So your saying if there is no CBA by July 1, 2013 there will be no CBA in place for any kind of season in 2013-2014?

I think Couture meant to say that we've already lost 26.5 percent of the season but anyway those talented high school dropouts clearly have no understanding of the actual negotiations.

Let's see how anyone how can defend Couture's stupidity.

Cops and firefighters unfortunately die in their lines of work trying to make our society safer. How many months of vacation do they get for 1/200 of the average NHL salary? Truly sickening.
