It would be possible. I know at the very least the AHL is allowing teams to do it. The Houston Aeros are playing at least one weekend of games at the Xcel Energy Center here in Minnesota late next month. Sadly the games are against Peoria so there's no reason for me to go... Would be pretty cool thing for the Monarchs to do though.

As far as the AHl landscape goes it's really odd that the AHL is almost exclusive to the east coast. Then there's the ECHL that has somtething similiar to a east and west conference. I think the main problem with the AHL expanding west is travel and the fact that multiple teams would have to move west at around the same time. You'd almost have to have between 5-8 teams move to the west coast (away from markets that are already productive) to make travel feasable. I think that if Phoenix moves somewhere within the next few years and Seattle doesn't get a team then you may see one of the west coast teams try to start up an AHL franchise in one of those markets but those are huge ifs.

I think a more realistic scenario would be for the ECHL and CHL, or AHL to merge and that new league over a few years become the "new AHL" or major minor league affiliate to the NHL. You'd have to think it would be enticing to teams like San Jose, L.A., and Vancouver to have an affilitate in Texas or Arizona surrounded by the NHL teams that they play the most often.

Interesting thought. But with more and more draftees coming from outside the CHL system, most NHL teams really need two levels of farm teams. With that in mind, the following merger scenario would be exciting:

An appropriate number of geographically balancing and/or more profitable teams join or remain in the AHL, while a consolidation of the remaining teams from any of the merged leagues (AHL, ECHL, FHL, SPHL, CHL, whatever) results in a 2nd tier league in place of the current ECHL.

After a slow start the Monarchs took control of that period. Kozun and Andreoff with goals for the 2-0 lead.

Looks like the same forward lines as last night:

King-Loktionov-Kozun
Cliche-Vey-Toffoli
Prokhorkin-Czarnik-Pearson
Clune-Andreoff-Legein

Couldn't work out the D pairings, but it looks like Hickey is in and either Campbell or Deslauriers is out.

Yup.
Tonights Monarchs healthy scratches: Weal, O'neill and Campbell.

I went to get food from the kitchen and of course the Monarchs score. What happened on the Loktionov goal?

I love that Prokhorkin has some spunk to him. Not a great fight, but at least he's willing to stand up for himself. Benoit's being a d-bag.

Jones has looked so much more solid this weekend than the first couple weekends.

Bodnarchuk let one rip from the right circle and pretty sure Loktionov deflected in front of Bishop.

You sure you're thinking about the right goal?

Kozun went behind the net, passed to Bodnarchuk at the point, who passed it to Lokti at the hashmarks, who fired a wrister and scored.

3-0 still. A nice Jones glove save on a breakaway (Deslauriers terrible positioning). Bodnarchuk with the boarding call...Jones with 2 really nice saves.

Not a great period by the Monarchs. Fortunately, they managed to get that early goal.

PP Goal !! Toffoli.

4-0

This Monarchs team reminds me A BIT with that team in 2004-2005 when there was a lock-out too.

Toffoli on the PK. Good to see.

Kozun in the box.

Pretty impressed with Jones, made one heck of a save in the 3rd and got the SO.

sounds like tonight they put forth a better effort after getting the comfortable lead in the 2nd period. Saturday night when it got to 5-0 they kinda sat back.
Tonight it sounded like they pressed the issue a bit even up 4-0. Sounds like Jones is over whatever ailed him last week. good for him.
