Everything still way up in the air, besides Winnipeg being eliminated. Edmonton is still in a pretty precarious position. If Toronto hangs on to beat Sask, they'll have wrapped up 2nd in the East and might be resting starters against Hamilton next week, meaning the Cats will have a good shot at winning that game. The Esks would need an 8th win to secure that crossover. Hopefully they can surprise an Als team with nothing to play for tomorrow. Though with a Sask loss today, another win for the Esks suddenly has them in the driver's seat for finishing 3rd in the west. Anything can happen at this point.
Definitely didn't expect an Argo win today. We could be seeing a Sask-Toronto rematch in two weeks if Edmonton can manage to win one of their remaining games. I really doubt BC lays down to the Riders in the season finale after their poor effort in Calgary, so my bet is on Sask finishing 8-10. Edmonton has the tie-breaker with the Riders, so if they get to 8 wins they'll probably be 3rd. If they win both remianing games, they're 3rd for sure. And if they lose both, Hamilton is in with a win next Thursday.
It'll be interesting to see how the Argos approach the season finale. You don't want to get anyone injured in a meaningless game, but the offense is on a roll right now, so you may not want to kill momentum by having Ray and Owens sit out either.
1 good thing about Toronto's chances are they have played their last outdoor game of the season assuming the East Final is at Olympic Stadium. I am shocked they won today in the frigid Sask tundra
ps- Bieber is the Half Time Show at the 100th Grey Cup, that beer line will be huge.
So in today's news, the sun came up, the sky is blue, and Kavis Reed cost the Eskimos yet another victory with his stubborness and stupidity.
The two free points Kavis gave away by conceding a safety (worst idea in football) proved to be the difference. Of course, if Kerry Joseph hadn't been given until well into the 4th quarter to prove he is a useless QB it may not have mattered.
I don't think I've ever seen a team where such a high % of losses are directly attributable to the coaching staff. And I watched Danny Maciocia coach this team for years.
That Hamilton defense will go down as one of the worst we've seen in a while in the CFL. This was vintage Burris though. For all the yards and TD passes he put up this year, his untimely turnovers sunk the Cats in the end. Hamilton probably wins two of the games they lost to Toronto this year if Burris simply protects the football.
Tillman canned, yet Reed and Crandell remain employed? The organization has been pretty vague on why he was canned, but it will probably come out eventually. Trading a 1st round pick for a punter that was never used will go down as one of the worst trades in CFL history, but overall I was really happy with what Tillman did personnel wise. This team is in 100x better shape today than when Tillman took over for Maciocia.
So it's Edmonton crossing over to face Toronto, and Sask heading into Calgary.
Kavis Reed isn't saying whether it's going to be Joseph or Nichols starting. If it's Nichols, I'm actually fairly confident the Esks can win this game. Marcus Howard is back, and that will be huge in getting pressure on Ray. The book on Ricky is quite simple, and the Esks should know it better than anyone. If they get consistent pressure on him, he'll be very ineffective. The question is whether or not the Esks offense can get enough points themselves against a solid Toronto defense. I think they can, if Nichols is running the offense. If it's Joseph, all bets are off.
Sask-Calgary is interesting. The Riders are highly inconsistent. It's tough to predict which team is going to show up. Calgary is as fraudulent a 12-6 team as I've ever seen (they literally won 4 games due to last-second FG screw ups by the opposing team). If they just feed the ball to Cornish, they should beat the Riders, but Hufnagel/Dickenson have been known to abandon the run for no good reason. See last year's playoff game against Edmonton for evidence.
I've never been more embarrassed to be a Eskimo fan. What a hopeless franchise.
Reed was the only person on the planet who thought Joseph would be his best chance to win, and predictably all the fans and analysts have been proven right, while Reed has been proven to be a moron of almost unparalled ineptitude.
Hugh Charles shreds Toronto with 6 carries for 58 yards on the first drive of the game. And doesn't see another carry. He wasn't hurt though, coaches just felt like benching him for Cory Boyd, who has already been cut by the team once this season.
I hate Reed and Crandell so much. They better never be associated with this franchise again. But really, Reed will probably get promoted. Stupidity is rewarded in Edmonton. Has been for years. And even if they're fired, we'll just hire somebody even dumber. Probably will bring back Danny Maciocia.

I have been a huge backer of Reed, blaming most of the problems on Tillman. Not anymore though. Starting Joseph was absolutely indefensible and sticking with him for the entire half only made it worse. He should be fired for the starting decision alone.
