Both sides are people, and PEOPLE are inherently greedy, always striving for more. Without that same drive, built in, I doubt we are here talking to each other over this thing called the "internet" on electronic devices.

The person or persons with MORE is almost always automatically labeled as the VILLIAN. Both sides, in this case have more than us.

Therefore... both sides could be labeled as the villian, here.

We as fans, could be labeled as the VICTIMS, however, I refuse wear this label, or to let this affect my life. Instead, I'm choosing to better myself in other ways ie: more gym time, read more, learn photography.

Don't be the victim, be the man.

It was stupid that they are cancelling an entire month at a time... Work expands to fill the time allotted to complete it.... All this does is give everyone involved a false sense of having 'more time' to get the job done.... Watch them continue to slack off until the end of November approaches, then they'll cancel another month. Rinse & Repeat.

On TVA Sports during the Abbotsford/Hamilton AHL game, veteran reporter Yvon Pedneault (he's been covering the NHL for decades) talked about there is some talk the owners will be presenting a ''business model'' this week to the PA.

Also said several owners are starting to be quite unhappy and putting pressure on Gary.

I doubt an offer will be worse.

Bettman said offers will be worse after September 15th. They went to 50/50.

If the owners are putting pressure on Bettman, I think they'd be putting even more pressure on if he puts a worse offer on the table.

Hopefully more than 50% of the owners are putting pressure on him. I think we all need some good news around here...it's been so depressing lately

You know it's bad when die hard fans like us don't even want to discuss it anymore.

It just dawned on me. There is a method to both side's madness.

Each year that goes by with no hockey played wipes out part of everyone's contract. Both sides are waiting for all the contracts to disappear which should bring us to an agreement.

So PA and League did have some contact this weekend. Still no word if they will sit and talk in person. Tough finding common ground.

They are stuck with each other.

Not only that, but again, the owners are seeking to indemnify themselves from losses. Not only are there no such guarantees in the world of business, there are also no such guarantees in other sports. Bad teams WILL loose money. Teams in bad markets WILL loose money.

To seek to choke those losses out of the players is a little ridiculous.

This is the first of what the owners will see as signs that this is a VERY bad business decision. Loss of 24/7, loss of Winter Classic sponsors, loss of what fan support you have AND staring at playing the last year of your television contract as playing for free, makes for a bleak financial future. The TV contract is a big thing. Playing that year for free will outstrip any financial concessions that they may gain.

Funny how the NHL might actually have to face the fact that they've grown enough that they might actually have something to lose!

Should have locked both sides in an office in NYC before the storm started to hit so they would be forced to talk for like three days straight.

Unfortunately it doesn't mean a thing until 75% of the owners put up a fight. 4 owners are holding the hockey world hostage.

Don't know if the article has any merit but it echoes my view that the owners are behind Gary:

Since rejecting the union's trio of proposals, the league has made two rounds of game cancellations. The latest, announced on Friday, wiped out the regular-season schedule for the month of November. A source familiar with the league's plan told ESPNNewYork.com that the league is expected to cancel the Winter Classic on Thursday, the source said.

Let's take the leverage off the table so all sides can understand where they are at and consider what can be done to move forward (if anything).

The biggest gaff by the NHLPA in 2005 was compromising Goodenow's position as leader. There is no way the owners will announce or leak that Bettman is in trouble. These "everything is A-OK" stories are fluff pieces. Doesn't mean a thing one way or the other.

Why? They know where everything is at. Go ahead and cancel but the game will be back on if a deal is reached before thanksgiving, enough with artificial deadlines. The silly attempts at scare tactics do nothing. It's down to a few issues, just end the freeze and conditions on meeting so they can discuss the sticking points.

There will be no deal before Thanksgiving. The window closed. neither side will give in. It's always been about one issue. Here's to hoping I'm wrong but other than my one optimistic waffle the lockout is playing out on schedule. October was too soon and November is no man's land. No one is pushing for a settlement. Neither side is panicking. That's why Fehr was put in. The owners will wait. Wake me up in mid/late December and there will be one more push for a 40 game season. After that, it's all over.

Actually, there is method to the NHL's madness regarding the Winter Classic: there is a large payment to be made very soon under the terms of the contract with Univ of Mich. I'm not sure cancelling the WC will increase the pressure on either side, but it will certainly give both sides the chance to point fingers at one another and attempt to curry favor with the public.
