Its gonna be bad man, you should be interested if your still living in LI as you will definitely be effected by this monster storm.
It might "only" be a Cat 1, and when it hits us, likely just a tropical storm, but the thing is huge. Its not going to be over in a few hours, it going to pound on us for almost 2 days with huge gusts of winds.
Additionally, the worst of the storm will be just north of where the hurricanes eye makes landfall, putting the NYC tri state area right in that zone.
Hurricanes are a big ****ing deal up here because we live in hosues that are 200 years old, generally made of wood, with basements well below sea level. The NE doesn't keep their trees trimmed enough, causing branches and leaves to fall on roofs and power lines when strong winds come. Not to mention all our cities are located right on the sea, making storm surges a huge problem.

Im sure I'll be going to work tomorrow. Banks and schools and goverment building will be closed im sure, but for some reason my company will think its still urgent that we come to wrok and fix watches. ****ing french company! LOL
I'm pretty sure Seaside Heights is already flooded. I was on the bayside and could see the water quickly rising and it will probably cover the bridge on the lowsides once it gets bad. Pretty windy but not that much rain yet.

Someone has to explain to me why a category 1 hurricane is getting all this media attention.
The biggest problem in NYC will be the storm surge. The worst of the storm is supposed to hit at high tide--which is made worse by the fact that the moon is full too. Other than that, there is always the danger of stuff flying around and trees falling. Most power lines in NYC (except SI) are underground, I've been through 50+ years of hurricanes in Brooklyn and the power has never gone out for more than a few people.

Well we should get quite a bit of rain and plenty of wind. And the low lying areas will have storm surge to contend with. But if you look at the current projections the storm is going to make landfall quite a bit south of NYC. The "perfect storm" is not happening here.

This storm is about 500 miles long. I don't think it really matters where the eye hits.
Also the strongest winds in a Hurricane are north of the eye. So us.
ALSO the damage this causes won't be the wind, it'll be the storm surge which doesn't really matter if we miss a direct hit.

I agree, low lying areas will have to deal with flooding. But as usual all the local governments and media outlets are hyping this up beyond proportion. I mean the MTA was shut down tonight at 7pm...the storm isn't even projected to make ground fall until tomorrow night in the NYC area. Now millions of people have to deal with a huge hassle getting to work on Monday. Talk about unnecessary.

Last I saw the worst conditions are coming in around noon tomorrow. Besides shutting down the transit system takes a good 24 hours from what I recall..

Noon? The storm will still be hundreds of miles off the coast tomorrow at noon.
Long Island is going to see sustained winds of 45-50 mph tomorrow night with gusts up to 80 mph. Prob 2-4 inches of rain (which is the least of our concerns). Storm surge will be up to 12ft. I don't think you realize how bad that is and its going to be sustained for over 12 hours.
There are going to be a lot of downed trees. With those winds, a moist ground and a lot of leaves still on the trees, some really big trees are coming down. I'm in a local fire dept out here and we are preparing for a very rough late afternoon until early Tuesday.
Do not down play this. It's going to be bad. Just because there isn't going to be a crazy amount of rain doesn't matter. It's the heavy winds and storm surge for a long period of time. It's making landfall prob around 8pm tomorrow but going to be extremely bad 1pm tomorrow until early morning Tuesday.
