And of course, streams and rivers in the region are expected to flood. They don't think tidal surge will make it up the Potomac at this point, but they're concerned about freshwater surges from upstream causing flooding.

I think the longest my power has ever been out due to a power outage was about 12 hours and that's because it happened in the middle of the night

Haha, lucky. I've done 9 days; my parents had to do 11 when Irene came through.

Good luck to those of you in Olde Town Alexandria. Flooding galore. Luckily, I never had many issues with power in Virginia--the Maryland side of DC is always out, though.

EDIT: Georgetown University is closed tomorrow. That's pretty odd, up the hill and all.

I used to live just outside Old Town, I've seen flooding there from less severe storms. Those businesses are screwed; I'm not sure I'm worried about the residents, they all seem to be incredibly loaded. They ought to be more capable of recovering.

I don't remember the Metro closing from rain in the years I lived there--though 8 inches of snow = disaster.

For whatever reason (depth?), the Metro seems much better insulated than the NYC subway system.

It's already closed for tomorrow. I think WMATA made the call between 5 and 6 PM? I don't remember when I got the text.

The metro in DC, as well as the subway in NY and Phi will be shut down through out the day tomorrow, at least.

Thanks for reminding me, I wanted to do that this morning but had to run.

Done. I've got my hands full getting crap ready for the next few days or I'd set up an MSE-style GDT

Gov. Christie and Bloomberg both mentioned that they have asked(or contracted) electric companies as far out as San Diego to head towards NY/NJ to help out with the power outages, not sure if Nutter mentioned anything about it for PA, I'm staying positive about it all, just hope everyone on here remains safe throughout it all

In.

Work in DC closed.

Hopefully home in VA will be spared.

In preparation, I got really drunk.

Thoughts on this...there is a mandatory evacuation for the East of Route 9 where I live. I live one house in on the West side of Route 9. Evacuate or stick it out?

Hard to say. Some of 9 is close to water, some of it is decently far. If you've got water nearby I'd consider evacuating; if not, meh. Look at a map, I guess.

Then again, who knows. Potential historic storm = all bets off.

Basically impossible, but it would be funny if the storm fell apart.

If there's anything good about this mess, it's more Sheena Parveen.
