Dropbox

I didn't see a thread on this so I went ahead and made one myself. I just started using this app today and it's a life saver. I used to carry around my USB key and trying to keep all my files updated throughout my 2 desktop and my laptop. My friend kept telling me about it and I never saw the point of it until the "new" Hotmail just drove me crazy and forced me to find a better method of file sharing.

I'm going to shamelessly leave my referral link here, so if anyone wants to sign up, it'll be much appreciated. Every time you get somebody to sign up, it's 250mb extra for you:

http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEzOTAwODU4OQ

I know a lot of people will probably pass up on it because they might have better way to manage their files, but for those that are looking for a reliable utility, this is it.

Anyone have good/bad experiences with Dropbox?

Dropbox is the best thing to happen to computers in a very long time. I love it, and have been a devoted user for years. Automated online backups based on versions, updates and date (not including your own local backup) as well as cross-platform syncing make it a killer, must-have utility.

I have strongly considered moving everything that is not an application or a media file onto Dropbox, so my files will be everywhere whenever I need them.

PS - I wish they made a 20GB pro version, 50GB is too much for me.

And with the free 8GB, you can pretty much upload A LOT of word documents + PDF's (that's what I'm using it for).

EDIT: Oh, so you're paying for the 50GB service? I guess then yeah, you have ENOUGH space for everything!

Ditto. I house all my class notes, projects, etc on there.

And I'm not actually paying for the 50GB service. I wish they'd have 20GB, I can't justify spending $100 a year for a service I won't even use half of.

I LOVE Dropbox.

So easy to move stuff between my desktop, my laptop, and using the Android app, my phone. Also helps when I'm at someone's place and can just hop on to Dropbox's website and grab what I need.

It's great. I'm at 35 GB of space all from different free offers.

I got free (for 2 years) extra 23 gig of storage when I bought my HTC phone.

When Im too lazy to plug my phone to my PC to transfer MP3s or movies, I just upload them on DB, then transfer them from my phone's DB app to my phone's SD card.

I have it; but I don't really have much use for it.

I only use it for reading groups with classmates.

I only use it for school projects, really.

That said, it's super useful.

The only problem now is that I'm way over my limit for free account, and I can't do the Space Race thing because UBC got rid of our .edu emails and I didn't set up my email forwarding in time.

Some time I'll have to get around to activating free offers so that I can actually upload stuff again.
