For Manchester Monarchs: 5-1-0 record.
Kozun 8Pts
Kolomatis 6Pts
Loktionov 6Pts
Toffoli 5Pts
Jones 1.84GAA 0.926S% with a shutout

The impressive part is that the Monarchs don't use AHL veterans like Locke (other than backup goaltender Mannino and 4th line winger Cliche)

A few things.

First, Nate Guenin leading the league in plus/minus with a +10 in 6 games. No one's mentioned him, what a captain thus far.

Lines were all shook up today, more so than any other game. Lasch was a scratch, Kurtz was the 4th line center and Etem was on that line with limited ice. Did anyone notice Wagner started at right wing with Holland and Mitchell today. He's been the 4th line center in all 5 games to this point. The kid is killing it on the PK, faceoffs and is +6.

DSP is a force up front around the net and has also done a great job on the PK with Mac. He steps right into the NHL as soon, IF it starts up.

Couldn't have been happier that Bobkov gets the shut out. I had question marks on him after his last start. Looks like he was solid today.

While Guenin is a great guy, he's more than had his chances at the NHL level. He isn't more than a #7 or 8 on the NHL depth chart.

I gotta say I agree. Especially in Anaheim.

Fowler-Beauchemin
Sbisa-Allen
Souray-Lydman
Vatanen-Clark (they'll give these two a fair shake in event of an injury as they're still young)
Guenin-Lindholm

Schenn with 4 points tonight.

Has 9 pts in 7 games (4 goals).

Couturier has 6 pts in 7 games, and has been playing better than what his stats say (from reports). Also only has a 4.2 SH%. Not getting the puck luck right now.

Horak has really been impressive for the Heat.

7 games played - 7 goals, 1 assist.

Clearly not a team player and a puck hog.

haha, yea.

Im really hoping he can continue on a decent scoring pace. I had him projected to be a solid scoring third line player and he may still be, however his good start has shown that he may have some top 6 potential.

I agree with this as well. Much like Maroon, Guenin is basically at his best at that level. At the next level guys like this are at the fringes. It just shows how talented a player has to be to even play on the fourth line of an NHL team.

To be fair to Maroon, he's still only 24 while Guenin is 29. There's still hope for him yet, however slim it may be.

It's a bit of a cliche, but it's a playstyle thing as well. Some career AHLers may have more overall talent (offensive talent, specifically) than guys on the lower rungs of NHL teams, but they're missing one thing (defensive acumen, speed, etc) that those 4th liners do have, which makes them ineffective in the bigs.

I agree, that's why I brought up Maroon. What I see is a great toolkit for the AHL, but the effectiveness at the next level of those tools leads me to expect a drastic hit to his production.

Mostly his skating holding him back? Aside from any character issues, of course

To those who've watched Houston play, how has Jonas Brodin looked?

In the game they played against the Barons*, he looked decent but didn't jump off the page or anything. He took a bad penalty at one point and had a nice goal on the power play IIRC. He seems like the kinda guy that will have a quite night but be a +2 with a point, strong positionally. Of course like I said, only saw him in one game.

Yeah, his skating - there haven't been any complaints from Syracuse or Norfolk coaches regarding his character. He has great size and hands but his skating ability is really holding him back.

He's quietly being the best D on the team next to the more experienced and larger Scandella. Brodin has 2+2=4 points and is a +4. The kid is very good positionally and even better with the breakout. (seen 3 games).

Granlund has been as advertised. Coyle has exceeded expectations.

Yea I have always seen him as a 3C at best but since going to the Heat in a top 6 role he has gained alot of confidence and looks like a man possessed on some of his drives to the net, his speed is also very noticeable.

Horak is a guy who does everything well, but nothing great. Good hands, speed, and hockey sense. He know where to be to score goals. Another year in the AHL will be good for him to gain that confidence as well as add on a bit of size. He will likely top out as a pretty good 3rd line C on a great team, but he's panned out really well as a throw in from the Erixon trade.

Idk from what I have seen his shot seems to have really improved its not elite by any stretch but it is better than just fine. I have been most impressed by him out of the prospects on the Heat maybe because I was expecting much less but he doesn't seem to zone out like he did last year and is playing with some real passion its nice to see. It may only be a hot 7 games for maybe its for real but only time will tell but so far his shot seems above average.

My dynasty team enjoys this information.

It is, I would say Horak has a good shot.

The problem is he is missing 1 high-end element that brings him from a 2/3 line tweener to a legit top 6 player. (On a very good/contending team)

If one of his speed, hands, shot, or hockey sense were elite we'd have an outstanding player on our hands. That's what I meant by he is good at everything. This is not meant to be a knock on Horak, I have always been impressed by him.

He still has some adjusting to do but he's been effective. I'd like to see him use that wrister a bit more, might make him just a bit more dangerous on the PP.
