He only skates hard one way. Might as well be 10 min/night

Hope he sticks, was a big fan of his when he was on the Wheat Kings.

I'm guessing this is because the Jets don't want to try Dekanich/Montoya to waivers before the impending lockout, meaning that Plante will compete with Carrozzi for the early season backup spot depending on how long the lockout goes on.

Once Dekanich or Montoya arrives in STJ (assuming the lockout ends sometime this year AND the loser of the TC battle clears waivers), Plante will be done. Suprised he couldn't find an NHL deal as a 3rd stringer, he was pretty effective in 09-10, and 10-11 in Rochester. Looks like he had a pretty terribad season last year, bouncing from AHL (2gp), ECHL (4gp), Allsvenskan (6gp), Elitserien (0gp).

I know Montoya is subject to waivers, but I didn't think Dex was?

That said I wonder if it's more to have 4 goalies in St John's for training camp (Dex, Pasquale and Carrozzi).

Dekanich is subject to waivers. He was 22 years old when he signed his first NHL contract. Has 4 years professional experience (this is his 5th).

While Montoya is subject to waivers I can't imagine the Jets fear losing him there. They signed him for a fraction over league minimum, well into the free agency period. I haven't seen anything that indicates that any other team has interest in him, especially on the one-way contract he's now on.

To us, yes, but it shouldn't be taken as any more or less proof that he doesn't want to be here, etc. There are a lot of high-profile signings that haven't been made yet.

Burmi sent to AHL, does that mean he has no option to go to Russia?

Not long ago he mentioned he wanted to talk to Chevy and Noel about which option would be best for him.
I would like to think that they did talk to him. With that in mind, if he was planing on going to the KHL, it would be pointless for them to assign him to the AHL.
I think they (Burmi, his agent, Chevy, Noel) chose the AHL due to the optimism in a partial NHL season.

Not sure if we will have an ongoing ( I hope so ) thread like last year where we can follow our playersin the system.

Here is a good link with information on Austen Brassard , Scott Kosmachuk and Mark Scheifele ... like how our depth is starting to be noticeable , should really improve after this draft.

I watched Brett Sutter play a lot when he was on Calgary a couple years ago. He never blew my hair back then. And seeing as though he never even broke the Hurricanes line-up last year, I'm assuming his development has stopped, or is moving reeeaaallly slow. Not to interested in acquiring him.

The question I would ask is with Patrice Cormier in the final year of his entry level contract, progressing slowly, with Burmistrov and Slater slated as 3rd and 4th line centers for many years, Ben Maxwell really looking like a reliable substitute, and Eric O'Dell climbing up the depth chart would you consider trading him for a defenseman, or similar player? Or is he a good insurance policy who you hope matures and contributes next year?

I wouldn't. At least not yet. (of course it would depend on the return though).

The reason being, I don't see Burmistrov being a 3rd line centre for many years. Maybe this year (if there is a this year), and maybe next year. But IMO, Burmistrov needs to be in the top 6. Either as a 2nd line centre, or as a winger. I also don't see Maxwell as a substitute for Cormier. I think Maxwell might be decent injury replacement for 1 or 2 games, but don't see him as a regular. He, along with O'Dell also don't bring the same things to the bottom 6 as Cormier, namely size, physicality, and an edge (and great faceoff ability). (Although I admitingly have not seen much of O'Dell. Question, if O'Dell progresses, could he play the wing?)

If Cormier has a good season this year with the Ice Caps, I could see Slater and Cormier in the bottom 6 with Burmistrov somewhere on the 2nd line. Baring any free agent signings or trades, if Cormier plateau's or stagnates, I think his competition will come from someone like Olsen or Sutter (eventually).
