Here in Connecticut, they've shut down all highways, only emergency vehicles on the roads. The storm surge at the shore is expected to be historic (11 feet in some places with 20 foot wave above that).
I'm further inland, so the risk for me is wind (110+kmph) and power outages.
Last year, I lost power for 6 days.

Looks like Sandy is getting stronger: 90 mph sustained central winds (105 mph is Cat 2).

Yeah we had up to 80 last year I believe, we had a few roof shingles get ripped off, a tree down the road got ripped out...

It all depends, but 80KM/H can cause some damage...

That does look fake, but what do I know.

But that picture looks like Aliens are beaming down to earth.

that is a fake picture. The shelf storm cloud formation is real but this picture was taken in the mid-west a few months ago and then superimposed on the NYC skyline. The wind direction is wrong for Sandy which is coming is from ESE; the shelf cloud is coming from the NW.

Also notice the sun through the rain but the shadows on the statue has light from the south (midday).

Good catch.

Figured it might not be real but I'm too tired and cranky from studying to look into it.

I was about to link that picture too...

I've no idea if it's real, but if it is... It looks beautiful, yet terrorizing at the same time...
