I love Horak and I'm just really happy to see him doing well offensively. I hope he can keep it up and bring it with him when/if the NHL resumes operations. I have to say I'd never have expected him to do this well at this point. Still early in the season though.
We sure could use a young stud center right about now.
Bill Arnold is going to be a player I think. He was a hidden steal in the 4th round as some had him as a 2nd rounder. His coach has said he does for them what Bergeron does for the Bruins.
I think Reinhart, Horak and Arnold will be a solid 2-4 for our center depth.
Then it's either a Jankowski home run or a UFA signing for first line.
Add Backlund to the mix as well.
Our center depth is pretty decent, especially in 2 way centermen.
Don't forget about Cervenka as well - nobody has an idea how he will really do this season. Might even end up becoming a pretty decent 1st line center, though with the lockout, still up in the air if he will be Flames' property or not next season....
Wotherspoon is looking to be a pretty solid dman, although its to early to tell if he'll make the NHL or not. The icing on the Erixon deal will be Granlund. Horak will be an NHL'er, and if Granlund (who has a top 6 skillset) makes it, then I think we would of won that trade by a landslide.
Its pretty nice to have so many prospects on the Flames that are actually worth talking about. Kulak and Sieloff are making some noise this season to. Gaudreau is off to another solid start. Baertschi, Reinhart and Horak will likely be all NHL'ers as well, finally!
He's playing wing now right? Maybe that's helped his game.
The games I have seen yes he is playing alot more wing. Perhaps that has helped his game I love seeing him drive to the net with an idea of what he is going to do there.
I also have really loved Street he is great defensively and has more offense in his game than I thought he would. Street and Breen make up a bit for our poor defense man drafting the last few years (not including 2012)
went to the PC game last night. Jankowski did not overly wow me but i thought he looked good. He was more physical than i thought he would be. not laying huge body checks but rubbing people off into the boards and playin hard in the corners. he did however take a stupid penalty in the corner but he was battling hard(think it was a holding call). My first time seeing him and you could tell he was skilled. looks like the coach opened up the offense a little more with him being there which is nice.
not a goalie expert but Gillies looked really strong to me. he looked solid positioning wise. looked confident in the net. better at playing the puck than you would expect from a freshamn goalie coming in. he had a really easy workload for the second period but made a huge save to keep it 2-0 at one point.
hope you enjoy. looking forward to giving more throughout the season
Nothing against Gillies, but man I wish Janko was in his place for that award.
I understand what you are saying but Janko is just 18 last month and is adjusting to playing with competition his own size and speed he will take time and its not like he is dragging his feet he has 3 points in 6 games and doesn't look out of place at all from what I have read.
Gillies is having a very impressive start to the year, especially when you look at the other goalie who is 4 years older and put up a bad game.
On a related note, I'm a little worried Brossoit might lose his starter spot to a 17 year old. His numbers this year so far do not look good.

An interesting bunch of goalie prospects we have.
Brossoit's numbers are down but the Oil Kings as a team don't look as dominate as they did last year at least to me. Alot of it has to do with losing Pysyk and Gernat not playing yet. The teams offense is way down and it shows on the ice.

Oh I know, the fact that he's keeping his head somewhat above water is encouraging in and of itself. I was just hoping he might totally blow the lid off it. I really want to see this kid succeed in a big way (again, not that he won't, but it's always cool to see things happen unexpectedly quickly).

Yea thats fair but I think we all knew he is a project and it looks like he is on pace but I understand how great it would be to see him really kill it.
Interesting to not that Tyler Wotherspoon has 12 points in 13 games. For a guy I've always worried had very low offensive upside, he sure has a great start. Mind you, Portland is an offensive powerhouse, but they have been in previous years as well.
I've always though ff him as a 5-6-7 kind of guy but there is some hope he could become a mobile, physical number four defensmen one day.
