I went all cash on Friday for a brokerage transfer... turns out that might have been a blessing. Insurance companies are going to fall out when we reopen... energy should go up.
Yup..futures were already down....gonna be worse now. My damn home insurance in the last two years has already gone up massively..80% hike in two years. Insurance companies have been underwriting with more natural disasters ahead. Can't wait till my next policy in Sept!
Jeesh Con Edison transformer just exploded in NYC.....
There is NO truth to report that there is water on the #NYSE trading floor. There is no water in the building or in surrounding streets.
Not sure why CNN would be so lax with that report....but no surprise if in fact the report is bogus
Edit: Well according to this.... Wall Street does have water with cars floating down it.....who knows

By multiple accounts, the flooding in lower Manhattan is stunning.
Below are several pictures, but before you read them, check out this dispatch from the NYT's Hurricane liveblog, which describes cars floating down Wall Street... it should help make the below images more believable:
As the evening high tide was drawing closer, there were reports of flooding in several low-lying areas around the five boroughs, places that had not in recent memory experienced flooding. In Lower Manhattan, water crossed South Street, and cars could be seen floating on Wall Street on television screens at the ConEd headquarters. In Brooklyn, water had piled back onto Van Brundt Street — which flooded during the morning high tide — well in advance of the evening high water mark. At 7:25 p.m., Ninth Street in Gowanus was a nearly uncrossable river of water.
been in and out of cable/internet the last 4 or so hours. still have power. lights havent flickered since about 6.
worst of the heavy rain and wind seems to have passed
Ive just been waiting to lose power, and thankfully I havent. The worst of the winds is almost over it seems. Everyone be safe.
I too, am lucky enough to not have lost power or services, just some flickering of the lights every so often at most. I'm also lucky to live about 3/4 up a hill, so no chance of water being an issue, even though most of the rain is now an afterthought.
What did concern me are the dozen or so 50ft or so tall sycamore trees around me whose branches really are swaying quite well. However after doing some research I've come to realize that 50ft isn't very tall for trees of this species, so I'm guessing they're still relatively young and strong. So far the worst of the cleanup for me will be leaves. I hope it stays that way.
saw the video of NJ Gov Steve Christie ripping into the AC Mayor for leaving shelters open when he ordered mandatory evacs. people needed to be evaced by the national gaurd.
He was pretty ticked off at the whole situation.

Us people on the lounge thread were laughing our ***** off.. I believe the AC mayor even made a statement after the governor ripped into him

My lights had been flickering since about 7:30. i just went outside now and walked around my neighborhood and I only saw 2 tree that fell over. It was windy but I was able to walk easily.
There was a tree in front of myself that earlier this year started falling down branch by branch. I am lucky the final branch fell down about a month ago, that could have been a problem.
