Respect for the dead, but what the hell are you doing jogging out in the middle of a hurricane?

MYFOXNY.COM -
A tree fell on a man in Flushing, Queens, Monday night, killing him.

It happened at about 7:30 p.m. at 47-34 166th Street, the FDNY said.

The city warned New Yorkers to get inside.

"Due to severe storm conditions, all NYC residents are being instructed to go indoors immediately and to remain indoors until further notice," according to a message from NotifyNYC. "Go indoors, and stay away from windows. Only use 9-1-1 for emergencies."

Earlier in the day a female jogger in Brooklyn was hurt by a falling tree branch. Her condition was unknown on Monday evening.

I live in Kingston (2.5 hours SW of Ottawa) and circumstantial or not, the wind caused an 8 foot branch to snap off a tree in my backyard and it smoked my patio door It scared the living hell out of me This storm's gonna be a doozy...

I bus to Carleton from Stittsville and won't be able to catch an express bus tomorrow, anyone believe that it suffices as a reason not to go?

Nah I don't think we'll get that here. Rain has picked up a little. I like the fool across the street from me that is putting all his trash out for the garbage men in the morning. Sure, everything else in NY state will be closed but I sure as hell bet the garbage men will be out there! Idiot.

Snow is when Morrisville really gets pounded. We can do rain, but snow is the "finish him" move of the weather for Moville.

Progresso is good. Most of their soups don't have high fructose corn syrup. I mean why in the world does Campbells need to put HFCS in their Tomato, vegetable, and creamy tomato soups? Just a needless ingredient (but we all know why it's there).

Good answer, I'm in the same boat ,

I'm thinking about maybe moving my car a tad bit closer to the tree out front of my house and see about getting some of those pesky problems my car has taken care of. The tree did it, I swear!

I thought about that as as well - for right now I'm leaving my car parked on the street. If I pull into the driveway there're a few large trees in the yard. I'll move it in the morning if they're doing anything w/ the streets.

Woke up 15 minutes ago to bring some chairs in from my balcony.

Still zero rain around, and still basically none forecasted for Ottawa.

Was really hoping Sandy would be here by now/ hit a bit harder with rain/sleet/snow, I need more time to study for my midterm today The way a students mind works "oh people are dying and this storm will cost Americans millions in repairs, but if I could just get my test moved to next week..."

edit: my weather network says its 15 degrees outside right now.. 6:30 AM, almost November... wot.

Looks like it's really hitting Michigan / Ohio right now.

It seems that the wingspan areas are really getting hit. It did hit NYC area pretty bad but now, instead of mass damage in CNY area, it's hitting Ohio, Michigan, WV, etc. The middle of the storm is supposed to march right through my area and up to Ottawa so I'm wondering if I won't see anything simply for the fact that I'm in the middle ?
