Healthy Hossa

Just out of boredom/curiosity, what would you be willing to give up for concussion symptom-free Hossa ?

Luongo.

Just kidding, I won't start.

Presumably the Hawks would want a C coming back of comparable calibre, no?

i'd give you mika zibanejad if hossa was ok with coming back.

assuming that the cap hit goes back to chicago if he retires.

It's useless gauging the return of something that doesn't exist. Hossa comes as is, concussion symptoms included and signed very long term.

Not to mention Hawks fans have made it very clear that he's not available.

I think Chicago fans value Hossa too highly to be able to deal him away, and rightfully so.

The only things I would let him go for are off the block. I would only want a young stud (in almost any position, especially goal) in return and that will likely never happen. Hossa is such a fantastic player and has really aged like fine wine in terms of how he plays and sees the game, a real treat to watch. You can also tell some of our higher end forwards have learned a lot from Hossa.

Not interested at all in trading Schneider for a 33 year old on a lifetime contract. We have enough of those as is.

It would make no sense for Chicago to deal Hossa. Almost no chance that whoever you're getting back will be as effective. For the sake of the thread, a first liner/first pairing dman or an elite goalie is his value. He's an elite winger.

I don't care, because there's no guarantee he's healthy, and he likely only has around 3 years left being worth his cap hit.

10 years of elite goaltending > 3 years of Hossa. and the return we'd get for Schneider should be a similar calibre if unproven player.(ex. Rielly/Gardiner+, or Couturier if Bryzgalov stays in the KHL).

Just because we're in win now mode doesn't mean we should trade our young studs for grizzled vets.

Someone didn't read the OP. This speculation is under the circumstances that Hossa is completely symptom free. Also, your expectations are unrealistically high. As of now Schneider has yet to play a full season as a started and we don't know if he'll be a one it wonder like Mason. Hossa is fair value, expecting anything more would give me the impression that you're related to y2kcanucks...

2nd best scorer in the Western Conf
is considered Top5 player at his position
is considered Top3 defensiv Winger in the game

put up that kind of points with Marcus Krüger as his Center for most of the time

Hossa can't be replaced. We need him. Schneider straight up? NO. Zibanejad? NO

Chicago would want something that would make them a better team whenever they start playing again.

No prospects, picks, or 2nd line players are going to do that.

Teams that want to contend for the Cup do not trade players like Hossa for lesser players.

Unless someone steps up
And starts offering first line players for Hossa I wouldn't even think about it if I was the Chicago GM.

How on earth are my expectations unrealistic if all the players I mentioned are even less proven at the NHL level than Schneider?

That Chicago wouldn't make the deal is irrelevant. I doubt there's any teams in the league that would trade a prospect like Huberdeau or Hamilton straight up for Hossa.

I love how it's just obvious now that Schnedir is going to pump out at least 10 years of elite level Schneider.

LOL.

It doesn't matter, because the potential is there. Just like there's not a single team that would offer a young(if unproven) stud for Hossa right now.

It's certainly worth considering. The biggest gamble on our side would be how any solid goalie would react in Quenneville's lack of a system.

Reminder, Corey is turning 27 in a few months, he's not exactly that young, do you expect him to have to years of Elite level playing until he's 37? He's a good goalie prospect but to proclaim him capable of elite level playing for a decade is nonsense, the potential is NOT there for that.

A team probably wouldn't offer a Huberdau or Granlund like prospect but Schneider is not that type of prospect.
