Disney purchases Lucasfilm - Star Wars Episode VII to be released in 2015
The press release from the official Walt Disney website:
"The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.
Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney stock on October 26, 2012, the transaction value is $4.05 billion..."
"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime."
Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

Not a fan of this at all. I'll give them one chance, just one chance to not screw this up. However if they announce that they are remaking the original trilogy, Disney will burn!
What could they possibly make a 7th movie about? How the rebels took over Coruscant and the formation of the New Republic? Honestly, I think a movie set in the Old Republic setting would be cool. Just get new writers and get a respectable director to make it. Make it more adult oriented and don't let George Lucas have any say.
I thought this was some sort of joke when I saw this thread.
This is just terrible, franchise that already took a hit from 1-3 can easily take another one with this 7, run by Disney. I wouldn't mind some sort of spinoff ( Star Wars : The Old Republic or something like that), but saying Star Wars 7 just feels wrong.
I don't know why anyone is hating?
Same reaction when Disney bought Marvel. OH NOES THE MOVIES AND COMICS WILL BE WATERED DOWN?
Nothing changed at all. Except Marvel had financial backing for ANYTHING.
Are you going to be sad that you can longer watch such cinematic accomplishments like The Phantom Menace and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
GOOD RIDDANCE TO LUCAS
Disney owns it. Relax you psychos. How many Donald Ducks and Mickey Mouses have you seen in the Marvel movies in the past few years?
I for one am extremely excited.
Honestly a couple of days ago I thought to myself what if a new Star Wars movie ever comes out that follows the events after Return Of The Jedi. So I'm surprised to read this news, however I do wish George Lucas was involved and hopefully Disney can make it good.
