Could the Winter Classic be changed to Comerica Park if the season started in Dec?
Assuming that this coming Thursday the NHL cancels the Winter Classic which looks like a 99% chance of happening, what are the odds of it happening again if the NHL season happens to start in December? I think it will look really bad if it's cancelled and a few weeks later a new CBA is reached because then Maple Leafs and Red Wings fans will get screwed out of not seeing this game happen. Anyway I realize the chances of that happening is a long shot but if it did could the game be moved to Comerica Park or would it be better for them to re-schedule it for Janurary 1, 2014 at the University of Michigan Stadium like they originally wanted.
It's a good idea. Man, think about all the booked hotels and flights that are non-refundable...fans are about to get screwed big time. Worst part is, you're going to Detroit anyway now in the dead of winter with nothing to do. Ouch.
You need notify sponsors way ahead of time so they can notify their guests plus the preparations can't be done in a week.
Assuming the season started on December 1, 2013 that would give them exactly a month to build the rink and etc.
As for the sponsors I'm sure the NHL would let them know right away that a new CBA was reached. As for those who made travel plans from the Toronto area and bought tickets at University of Michigan Stadium, you would think the NHL would let them exchange them for tickets at Comerica Park. Although it's Comerica Park capacity is 41,255 and the University of Michigan Stadium capacity is 109,901. So the one negative is how do they decide who gets to go with less seats, plus they have to make it an even number of Maple Leafs & Red Wings fans.
