It's possible to search for jobs etc online but unemployment registration has to be personal. You also need a personal visit every month or so.

Listening through the Thrawn trilogy at work over the last few days. I'm going to watch through the series probably this weekend. Amazing.

Unemployment here (at least in Minnesota) can be applied for online, in person, or over the phone. I think they only have in person stuff for people who have been on it repeatedly (and not for seasonal employment) or for over a year or something though.

i'm pumped but a little worried. Not that Lucas did a great job with the last three movies but Disney...

Anyone know yet if they'll be taken from the post-rebellion books or will they "re-boot" that era? Kate Beckinsale for Mara Jade!

edit: i make no apologies for how nerdy that all sounded.

After the abortion that was the prequel trilogy, the phrase "new Star Wars" elicits no positive feelings, even with Lucas removed.

Remember when Ep 2 was coming out, and you thought maybe it would be good, that it couldn't be as bad as Ep 1 surely. And maybe Ep 1 would be the aberration in the series, that we'd look at that one as the 'bad' one of the series, and the rest would be OK? Walking out of that theater after ep 2 made you realize that you can't trust your own judgement. (/paraphrased from Red Letter Media's review)

But really the prequels moved the bar so damn low it would be really, really hard to fail here. I mean if Disney makes an 'average' movie out of this it would be hailed as phenomenal. Hell if this movie actually has a protagonist it'd be better than the prequels.

Also I hope they don't just completely disregard the EU, and make it so a ton of things in the books just didn't happen now.

you know they're going to cram some kid friendly utterly horrid character down our throats. chewbacca's kid or something. a furry little hellion always getting into trouble and farting.

Depends on how this is handled by Disney.
I mean they own Marvel, and they gave us the Avengers.
Disney also gave us the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean. (the others didn't exist).
Neither of those really had some horrible kid friendly character.

I'd guess it has to do with the heavy regulation of wireless standards over there. Europe is 100% GSM for a reason, and it's not because GSM is better. I wouldn't be surprised if it took multiple "acts of parliament" or whichever respective governmental institutions handle those particulars, to even allow testing for LTE or even HSPA+.

On the Star Wars front, it's worth pointing out that Lucas will not be involved in writing or directing, but will be on board as a "creative consultant."

I'd imagine that they make it so the main characters are late teens/early 20s, so kids, teens, and adults can all relate.

Thinking that, I think they'll more than likely jump ahead into the Jaina/Jacen/Anakin years. That way, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill can still show up and reprise their characters.

Finland already has widespread 4G services as well as HSPA+. The EU is a cancer though in terms of technological development. In addition to that, it's also slowly but surely destroying our economy as well. But that's enough of politics.

Feeling a bit bored and been mostly playing rFactor today. It's better than I remembered.

yeah, that's kinda where I thought it would make the most sense. People like movies to have a "dark" feel too, lately, so the whole Jacen storyline would be nice for that.

Holy smokes...the prequels weren't great but I don't think they deserve that much vitriol.

It's probably been 10 years since I read a Star Wars book, but I'd imagine that they'll try pick up relatively soon after Episode 6 storyline-wise. I think they'll use EU for inspiration, but won't stick with it anywhere near gospel. The fact that they're using "Episode 7" in the name implies to me that they are going to continue forward from Return of the Jedi, but how far can they skip? I would picture it more like the bridge from episode 5 to episode 6 (skipping Shadows of the Empire) than anything else.

I'd also expect a focus on a new set of characters (with some cameos from your core ep 4-6 people) so they can smooth the whole Ford/Hamill/Fisher are like 23589735 years old now issue. If they stick with already laid out EU stuff they might follow the X-Wing series for inspiration.

Fark has a photoshop thread on what changes should we expect from Disney owning Lucasarts. My favorite so far:

The only way I'm going to be optimistic about this at all is if they get someone like Timothy Zahn involved in the writing.

This is just bad news to me.

That's exactly what I've been going with the last day or so.

Wasn't able to keep the ginger ale down last night but I'm on my second can today and am doing better. Thinking about eating something other than just a few crackers though as I haven't eaten anything since Sunday night and I think my stomach can handle it as of right now. Not going back to the Cafe tonight, not after what their pizza did to me, but I might grab a chicken salad wrap or something from the little store we have here on campus.
