The only reason there are rumors of us buying a defender is because Jones and Smalling are injury prone. Smalling hasn't played since April and Jones always had a lingering knee issue. When they are both healthy, they get ample playing time. This isn't Man City..we don't buy players to ride the bench.

team's do get good wins in European qualifiers i.e. This year KuPS beat Bursaspor 1:0 and last year HJK beat Schalke 2:0 and drew 3:3 with Athletic Bilbao this year. But last time there was a team in group stages was 1998
Maybe SPL is best standard to compare, same kind of budgets but Celtic's budget is far superior than any Finnish team's budget which is maybe 500,000 euros if not smaller except for HJK which might be closer to 1 million

From what I have read in a few places, including the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Newcastle have the inside track on Moussa Sissoko. Newcastle have been after him for a year and a half. He is good friends with Cabaye and hey have been talking about Sissoko coming over to partner with him in the middle of Newcastle's midfield. Sissoko's contract is up next summer so Newcastle are going to try to sign him to an offer sheet/contract to move next summer as soon as January gets here. If they get him to agree, before he signs, Newcastle are going to try to offer his club a small transfer fee to get him in January and have Toulouse get something instead of nothing in the summer, but Newcastle also has no problem waiting if Toulouse try to jack the price up. If Sissoko comes, I think you'll see Tiote sold soon after.
