I haven't been following Texas as much as I should. I thought Willie said last week Glennie would be playing soon?

Glennie most of f'd up even more than we think. I know Stepneski said it was due to Glennie being out of shape, but there has to be more to it. Boozin again maybe?

I had asked Mark what happened with Glennie the last TWO games that he was supposedly going to play. He said he didn't know what to tell me. He was told that Glennie was going to play last week. WTF Willie, WTF.

There's definitely something they don't want getting out about him. They're going on three weeks into the season. I have a hard time believing this has anything to do with him just simply being "out of shape" or "late to training camp."

Is he really a troubled boozer or is it more of an overstatement?

Should I be expecting the headline "1st-round Dallas Stars draft pick Scott Glennie caught on UT Campus participating in hazing activities." ?

I would have gone with it was just playful ribbing, but Garbs followed up with a pretty mean (but accurate) retweet of a fan.

@Glenco46 @Garbs24 this from the Healthy Scratch. #getserious
Still ... we know they are close, Winnipeg guys. It's mean spirited ribbing, but that's the way I like it with my brother too. I don't think it's a respect thing honestly ... or I guess I should say I don't think he's pissed at hiim or anything.

Yeah that definitely doesn't seem that serious, pretty funny actually. I wonder if all the guys are doing it behind the scenes.

Yeah ... it's got to be way worse behind the scenes. Garbs stuff is funny, but you know the locker room back and forth is even better.

I get the brother ribbing thing but doing this in the public domain seems different to me, especially when the organization has been as tight lipped about the issue(s) as they have.

I actually don't really care whether it's serious or a good friend joke (btw I'm not as quick to label these guys good buddies based on geography as some) but the main thing is he's still not playing. It both looks bad and is bad. It looks bad to people on the outside and it is bad because he's missing games, which is the point of being a professional hockey player.

He called him out on twitter. That goes much further than any ribbing I've ever received/given.

Everyone likes fantasy football and talking crap, but Glennie tweeted this earlier:
"@Glenco46: Vicky get used to the bench!"

Ironic?

Whatever the issues are, it's too early to write him off. I profiled him for DBD today.

http://www.defendingbigd.com/2012/11...couting-report

Quote:
The fact he was selected so high has to be ignored when evaluating him now – draft selections reflect one thing only – how a player is viewed during their draft year. Back in 2009, many in the hockey world viewed Glennie as a future 30-goal scorer at the NHL level. He was seen by some as a “safe” pick because he didn’t have many holes in his game. However, flash forward three years, and he is still finding his way in the hockey world. He isn’t the only former top 10 pick to struggle in his first few years of pro hockey, and he won’t be the last.

His draft position has to be ignored now? What? It was a complete failure on behalf of the whole scouting team to let that pick go through. The writing was on the wall for the kid before he even got drafted, and his position in the draft should never be ignored by the Dallas Stars. 1st round picks are expected to perform like first round picks, not given special treatment because their feelings get hurt.

The guy is a bust. B-U-S-T.

Now we've waited too long, and his value has officially reached jack ****. He's a softy, he plays when he wants to play, and he has absolutely no care for how the team views him. If he did he would have busted his ass to get in shape and make his place on the roster. He didn't. It's the AHL. He sucks.

Make me eat crow for this post Glennie.

His draft position should be ignored when you evaluate him (not when you evaluate the scouts that selected him, though).

Draft position reflects one thing - how a player is valued at the time he is picked. Three years later it is largely irrelevant.

Too early to say that for any player. Look at Ladd and Wheeler (two examples of young forwards who struggled to find their way).

Waited too long? For what? Glennie to be an impact player? He may be thought of as soft and/or inconsistent, but unless you have access to his brain, I'm not sure how you can argue that third point.

Anyway, I understand the frustration with his lack of development. He may turn out to be a bust. However, one year of pro hockey isn't enough time to accurately judge a prospect, even one who was expected to be well ahead of where he is at the moment.
