Went back home to survey the damage. The basement is flooded up to the ceiling (which was my sisters' room) and so is the garage and laundry room. There's no power, heating or plumbing. There was a small house outside our street that's now gone. Going back tomorrow to pump the water and start the cleanup. Hope you guys are all safe.
Hope everyone is doing well in here.
Damn crappy ATT cell service has been going in and out. My town got pretty jacked up. Telephone poles, wires, transformers and trees down everywhere. 4 in our backyard.
It's been 1.5 days without power at this point but thankfully our generator system has minimized the impact of that. I talked to a cop in town and he said his best guess is two weeks until power is 100% restored. That's what I get for living in the boonies of NJ.
Stay safe all. What a storm.

Just before 7:30 pm the surge came crashing though my part of the neighborhood. I live 5 blocks from the beach. I nearly lost everything. Thankfully I'm at the highest point of my neighborhood & I was able to save my Car & no water made it past my front steps into my house. It was the longest 3 hours of my life.
There is 100% devastation in my neighborhood & sourounding areas. The media is barely covering what has happened on Staten Island.
I'm so sorry that this storm has claimed so many lives and houses, property and time.
I hope everyone stays safe and my post at least forewarned some people. I know a lot of people around here who played the ignorant card and said nothing was going to happen. One of them lost their house. Sad stuff.
It's quite the mix up for us who love the weather. So beautiful and exciting to see stuff like this, at the same time, never ever wish it upon anyone.
Still no power in my town (Bergen County). Lights came back on for 5 seconds earlier this evening before another transformer blew and lit up the sky and then the lights went out again. Talk about a tease!!!
So my dumb question of the day...if the 1 train station at south ferry is buried in water, just waiting for the water to recede (or pump it out) won't make it all better. You can't just flip a switch after the water is gone, correct? Is basically everything ruined that's mechanical or electric?

Depends on what is wrong. I could be as simple as drying out equipment, or as major as replacing components that could be up to 100 years old. Not to mention how long it takes to isolate all the issues. The hard part is trying to find new parts that work with old equipment.
We lost power at 6:30pm on Monday night and are still out (I'm at work). Other than that, can't complain. One of the cars got a dent on the fender (branch hit it). Some areas in our neighborhood are messy, but it could have been worse.
I wanna smack all of those people on the Internet who were "excited" and "couldn't wait" for this storm.

Seriously.
Feel lucky to be sitting pretty in Astoria. Feel terrible for everyone that have been impacted. My office is below 39th street so it looks like I'll be working from home for a while.

There's a tree resting on my neighbors house, we have no power or cable, and I'm all "and they're worried about 50% and escrow". Hope everyone is doing alright, best wishes.
It's really bad here on the east end of Staten Island, looks like a war zone. There are still rescue helicopters going around. Since the houses facing the water are pretty much only one floor houses, they're for the most part totally destroyed. So considering all that, we got off lucky.
