A friend and I talked for a while about the new Star Wars movies and we're both intrigued.
I thought a lot of the things that plagued the more recent trilogy were also present in the first three and don't see a huge difference in quality between the two. The original trilogy did have some strong willed actors, I think, that were willing to stand up to Lucas's general crappiness, moreso than the latter trilogy and that made much of the difference.
If they can get some new blood involved, I think they could create something quite spectacular.
It's amusing that both George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry had aspects to themselves that were so detrimental to their creations.
On a somewhat related nerdy note, I've been working for the last 6 months on compiling the best 20 Star Trek episodes of all time. Paring down around 700 Episodes was difficult in itself, and I'm finding that getting my 140 or so maybes down to 20 is equally hard.
Have been a Star Wars fan since 1977. I like all the movies and will probably like the new ones. However, my favorites are the 77, 80, and 83 originals. I just can't bring myself to be snooty or arrogant and pretend I'm a movie critic and pick apart details and shortcomings.
Just a fan of the story, the effects, the characters, the dialog, and admire the capitalistic success the franchise created and continue to create.
I think Disney will do a fine job with the Star Wars universe. Last time I checked, Disney has their shhhhhhh together and know how to create and capitalize on a great story/idea.
If Disney was sooooo bad, it would of failed long long ago (in a galaxy....).
Speaking of Revolution, before I left to volunteer this morning, I swear WNBC interviewed a dead ringer for Billy Burke somewhere in LI; the wife agreed with me, so I couldn't have been that off, haha.

Yeah, sorry, I'm not trying to be snooty, it just irks me that the original trilogy is held up on such a pedestal and the new trilogy is so poorly regarded.
Though granted I was born in 1986 so I lack much of the context of the time period that the originals were released in.
Yeah, as much as people like to rail on 1-3, #6 was easily the worst movie of the entire bunch. Return of the Jedi was just a terrible, awful movie.
Watch the Red Letter Media reviews and you may find yourself revising that thought. In fact the best thing about the prequels is that they gave us the RLM reviews.
I just don't get that Star Wars hype. I mean nothing against the new filming-techniques Lucas has founded with that movies, but I really don't get it.
I mean, It's an average story. It kinda reminds me of "Karate kid", with the difference that the father of Karate kid is the bad guy. It's the same story. Just create a few planets, a few aliens, and a political conflict. Add a princess. And then you've got your own Star Wars Saga.

You're insane, man. #6 was the weakest of the trilogy, but it still kicked the crap out of the new trilogy just on the basis of the space battle and the scene where Luke cracks alone.
The new ones were just bad, and you know they were bad because even the people who WANTED to like them couldn't bring themselves to do it.
The idea of the prequels was great, but the overmarketing and hype was just too much. He basically played off the fact that all the teenagers who loved the first 3 movies grew up, had kids, and had money, so he did everything possible to wring those dollars out of them, and little to make good movies.
Lucas also didn't do himself any favors by editing the original movies, and CHANGING PLOT POINTS. (Greedo never shot at Han!!!)
