Aha what the heck, I'll play along.

- Sign Travis Zajac 5 years 5 million

- Run hard at Getz, Perry and ultimately fail.

- Trade Bernier for Kadri

- Draft in the top 7 somewhere, and I'll say we get Monahan (I've got a feeling we move to get him no matter what)

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - *Zajac - Grabovski
Kulemin - *Monahan - Frattin
Ross - Mcclement - Biggs

Gardiner Phaneuf
Rielly Gunnarson
Percy Holzer
Komiserak

Bernier
Reimer

*Possible 1C

Getzlaf and Perry as FA's. While I don't see Getz coming here, I have a good feeling about Perry. Just for fun though, if we were able to swing both, and the cap doesn't change which i'm sure it will here is our line up under the cap. I gave raises to Lupul, Gunnar and trimmed the fat on the roster.

Just for fun..

CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $951,667

Not the most accurate, but anythings possible. When Komi comes off the cap we can use that money to give Kessel a raise.

And no Kadri won't be playing on the 4th line, I just don't know where else to put him. I don't think Grabo and Kulemin would be on the 3rd line either but it gets tricky because you don't want to split up the Getz and Perry chemistry, but Kessel doesn't click with Grabo. However this is just showing it can fit.

Dream big boys. Stay positive.
i like this plan haha. but if the leafs get both getzlaf and perry, i would definitely trade grabo especially with the possibility of the cap going down.

Ya logically it would make sense ti trade Grabo. But I would feel bad knowing he just signed herefor 5 years an really loves it here. If it's a season long lockout it would be weird to trade Grabo without him even playing 1 game under his new contract.

Its a shame he has no chemistry with Kessel because he's a great 2nd line center.

I think we'll end up missing out on the top centers and have to settle for McDonald/Horton or someone.. I always thought Horton was a winger, and I don't think having him and Dion on the same team would be very smart haha

If we can't get Getzlaf and Perry, we can still send our cap space very effectively:

Lupul - Zajac - Kessel
van Riemsdyk - Grabovski - Kulemin
Kadri - Bozak - MacArthur/Frattin
McClement - Steckel - Brown

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Gunnarsson
Holzer - Komisarek

Backstrom
Reimer

We spend our money on Zajac and Backstrom, both fill our needs. Holzer and Komisarek, are used as third pair "plumbers" who do the dirty work, that is if Komi improves. Jay McClement moves to the fourth line so we can keep both he and Steckel in the lineup for our penalty kill. Backstrom is a number one goalie and a good mentor for Reimer, imo.

Grabbos a center. Not a winger.

If we did acquire Zajac, he would probably make a lot of sense between Lupul and Kessel.

Bozak slides to #3... give Monahan a season to develop (I don't believe he's a center anyways).

Lupul-Zajac-Kessel
JVR-Grabbo-Kulemin

That would help us quite a bit. However if it's in this draft a first rounder along with Bennett or Tangradi. Personal preference would be Bennett.

He hasn't made his mark but he was pretty good in his call up from what I remember. Tangradi is still young and can turn it around, however Beau is just imo more skilled hence I'd want him than Tangradi.

I still want Bernier if he's available at a reasonable price.

Let him and Reimer duke it out until one of them becomes a legit #1.

Grabo used to play wing, and I believe he was more effective there. Monahan plays centre. If we had Zajac and Bozak, I would play Bozak with Kessel. There is definite chemistry, and Bozak has room to grow.

I don't think it's out of the question. It could be a situation similar to Parise's.

I was thinking the same thing. Also with the possibility of Kovalchuk staying over seas. Zajac may want to leave.

Grabo is a much better C than winger

I may be mistaken, I seem to remember him being a strong winger.

Wow, Leafs fans really have zero confidence in Kulemin returning to the player he was before last season. I remember Kulemin winning the poll last summer of the Leafs fans favourite player, even edging out Kessel. It's amazing how fast people can give up on a player after one bad season.

Not true. Also age. EVERY prospect under the age of 20 is a potential gem that is untradeable according to half the people on here.

I like Kulemin, that's why I'd like to see him playing with Malkin in Pittsburgh.

I'm looking for an even trade, not a win-lose situation.

I think a 1st and prospect would be fair. But I don't think it's a trade that helps us anytime in the near future. So I don't think Burke does that. Kulemin will be a 20+ goal scorer again. Maybe a 30g guy.

Burke likes to by-pass the draft, so he'd probably go with an emerging NHLer.

None seem to really fit a real need, at first glance.
