I think Yakupov and Schultz are both trying to one up each other here lol. So far, I'm not sure who I'm more excited about.

That's the best part. I am so excited to have both of them playing for the Oilers.

I am not sure that I agree. Just having Schultz on the PP with the rest of the kids should get him close to 40p. Over a full season of course.

Without mentioning Yakupov in the equation, Shultz is leading the AHL with 10p (4g,6a). That alone is a pretty significant piece to the puzzle. Yakupov on the other hand has been starving for ice time in the KHL, but you wouldn't think so if you saw his stats let alone his highlights.

If Dubnyk can play like we know he can, minus the bad goal a game that seems to be his trademark. I think we can set a precedent of being a winning team for the long term future of our club. Thoughts?

P.S. I browsed quickly for an old thread to bump, but couldn't find one... I know how that having the same thread pop up every week is upon around here, but... It's the lockout, blame Bettman not me...
Its the AHL, I wouldn't read that much into it. We had the number 1 scorer in the AHL and he could do absolutley nothing in the NHL. If Shultz gives us a solid top 4 defenseman then we got a steal just based on that alone. So wait for the NHL results before expecting him to much.

The KHL isn't a grind like the NHL, he won't score at the same pace. The way i've seen yaku play hes going to be HEAVILY dependent on the powerplay for points. He doesn't strike me as a great 5v5 player.

This team needs a lot more than those two. We need our vets to actually play like it. Im pissed off that the only people that seem to play is the kids. Its aggravating, until they get their **** together we are going to be a border team at best.

I don't think that is being realistic as there were only 3 dmen in the entire league that had 15 or more goals.

It changes every year. Defensemen have scored in the past and will continue to do so. I think he would probably get atleast ten in a full season this year, fifteen doesn't seem impossible to me but he would have to avoid slumps which is hard for a rookie.

So excited for Yakupov and Schultz to be a part of that. And the Ducks fans that invade every mention of Schultz on the boards crying foul......their tears taste sweet.

I'd like to be gracious about getting all this high end talent, but all other players and fanbases absolutely trashed us when we went through the Pronger/Heatley years, and trashed us when we decided to rebuild because we couldn't get good players to come to Edmonton. Can't wait till we're a good playoff team man. I can't wait.
Yes! I can't wait either! Every fan base flung the Oiler name through the mud. And soon they will all pay! Let's Go Oilers.

Not during the last lockout we didn't. And when he's showing as much or more high end skill than our other big 3 down there, IMO it's fair to say that he's going to be a player.

I was extremely pleased with picking up RNH and Klefbom last year. Even with Klefa developing as well as he is, it's hard to believe that adding Yakupov and Schultz might be bigger for our team.

Of course we have to wait and see, but IIRC, Staples said there's only been once in the last several years that a defenceman was in the TOP 10 scoring in the AHL, let alone #1.

That's a tad different, isn't it?
