Looking at the Canes roster, I feel it's one area that we could maybe stand an upgrade in. We got some talented skill players and up n comers for sure, but in this fans opinion, we're lacking a physical//veteran type who can consitently win the "Big Faceoff"

So for fun, who would you offer, and what would ya want in return?

Ott would have been perfect. If there's no season, and Grigorenko or Girgensons impresses next year, Ott should be available.

Eric Belanger can win a faceoff. Unfortunately his offense disappeared last year.
Would come cheap though.

Can't Ruutu play center or no? Must be nice for teams like Carolina and LA who can slot players that would be 1st line C's on alot of teams to the wing because of depth. (Staal-Staal, Richards-Carter) Greedy ******** lol.

Doubt it. Girgensons will likely need more time to develop, IMO, though it seems fairly likely Grigorenko is with Buffalo whenever the next season starts. Hodgson and Ennis both definitely suck at faceoffs, and Grigorenko probably needs to improve there as well, so Ott will still have plenty of value to the Sabres. The only one of them that could really replace Ott's probable role is Girgensons anyway, so Grigorenko making the team wouldn't really matter. Plus Ott can also play the wings, brings a ton of grit, and will likely be given a huge role on Buffalo's PK regardless of who else is on the roster.

I thought Jeremy Welsh was going to be slotted there, and Hurricane fans thought he was NHL ready.

He is, I was just speaking hypothetically. Like if he needs a bit more time to develop, or we're looking to pick up a piece for a cup run and such not.

We have a lot of wingers that can play C, Jokinen, Skinner, Ruutu etc etc, but most of our players outside the Staal's and Ruutu are smaller skill players. Adding size is never a bad thing

Steckel?

He's redundant on the Leafs now that we have McClement. Though he doesn't bring much to the table beyond FOs/size.

Gaustad would be perfect for that role, he's a beast on face-offs and the PK.

How about one of the best damn centremen at faceoffs? Steckel. What would you return? I'd say a 3rd rounder.

Steckel comes to mind. Excellent FO guy, decent defence, not much else.

He is great for defensive zone starts and then swap him out.

Manny Malhotra assuming he can somewhat return to form would be great for Carolina imo. Leadership, Faceoff God, can hit and chip in a bit offensivly too. I would consider moving him if Schroder/Ebbet/Lapierre could step up.

I present you Scott Gomez! He's gritty when faced with a taco and he can win faceoffs, once in a while.

Malhotra can never get to the level he once was. He has permanently significantly decreased vision in one eye.

Convince Rod Brind'Amour to unretire. I bet he is still killing it in the gym.

He's an assistant coach for the Canes now. I'm sure if he grabbed a uniform and hit the ice, no one would notice the difference.

Petteri Nokelainen - 6'1, can be gritty. Wins faceoffs and... He's finnish!

Except he's more of a 4th line centre...
