If the season is cancelled, the Leafs will likely pick very high

Of course, I think all of us would rather see hockey be played

But if it came down to it, would you rather see: a 48 or 40 game schedule, or just cancel the whole season?

Or, is your criteria whether or not the Winter Classic is played? Because apparently that will be cancelled by Friday.

Not necessarily, I think the average is about 7th overall for the Leafs if they do what they did last lockout. (there was a topic on the main board a little while back that calculated the results)

That'd be weird... we're the only team to miss the playoffs in each of the last five years, and what has our highest draft pick been in that span? No higher than 5th OA.

It would be hilarious if Burke won a lockout lottery.

God forbids this ever happens. The boards would explode. The conspiracy theorists and whiners would be out in full force.

If I'm not mistaken, two of the four teams that had three balls in the last lockout lottery ended up picking out of the Top 10.

It'd be a damn shame to miss the playoffs for as long as we have, miss out on a whole season and only pick around the middle of the pack... but it'd sure be typical Leafs luck.

We had about the same odds of picking first overall last season as we would if we lost the season and had a lottery.

But the worst we could have picked last season was 6th. We could be well out of the top 10 quite easily if they use the same lottery formula as last time.

I think they only go back 3 years, so unless they change it, anything past the last three years is irrelevant to the draft lottery. If they do factor in more years, then the Leafs should have the highest advantage.

If the whole season is canceled, I wouldn't think about where the Leafs will pick I will question why I should remain a fan of this league.

Remember when he said "Pittsburgh model? They won a ******* lottery and got the best player in the world... Pittsburgh model, my ass"? I'd piss myself laughing if that ended up happening, especially with how Burke bashed it

He'd still be absolutely correct about it being anything but a "model" to rebuild a franchise.

The Rangers missed the playoffs for seven seasons prior to the last lockout. Just like the Leafs. They were picked 21st in the lottery.

they should cancel it now as far as i'm concerned.

i'm done with this joke of a league, at least until they stop keeping teams like pheonix on life support. i simply can't take the NHL and their never ending cycle of lockouts/strikes seriously anymore. asking players to take a paycut from contracts that have already been signed when they could easily split 50-50, move 2 of the struggling franchises to the GTA and quebec and be done with it. embarrassing.

Except there is no guarantee where you pick, just have better odds.

If you play and miss the playoffs you are guaranteed to pick in the top half of the first round.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

He's right, he wouldn't be able to take credit for the rebuild if he won the lock-out lottery. I'm guessing he'd give it to Phoenix to help save the franchise.

With 3 balls we have a 6% chance of winning. That means that there is a 94% chance of losing.

This lottery system sucks.

If there is no talks and agreement of a new CBA by the end of November, chances are games in December will get cancelled and I say by that time they might as well cancel the rest of the season.

I agree with this. I already have a feeling (based on the animosity and lack of movement from either side) that the season's already lost, but if there's not real progress within the next few weeks, it's definitely done. If they're not on the ice by the new year, then there's no point in even trying to have a season.

The Leafs get credit for finishing 29th overall and 2nd last even if they traded the pick away.

This season is already tainted. Another asterisk for the record book. I say cancel the season, let the kids play in the minors for another year of development, get another high pick without the sting of a bad season, come back strong with the new coach, another blue chip prospect, players like Rielly poised to make the team, and have cap room to sign some tasty free agents under the new CBA.
