CUNY has classes resuming friday. Don't know that's possible when lower Manhattan doesn't have power, trains aren't entering the city, and multiple campuses are being used as shelters/have damage from the hurricane.
My school's website is down but I just saw on News 12 that classes are canceled tomorrow. Now hopefully Friday will be canceled too so I could avoid taking this exam until next week.
The lack of power wouldn't be so terrible if my cell coverage wasn't so bad. Next to impossible to browse on my smart phone, there must be a lot of downed towers. Sadly enough one of the things stressing me the most is my ability to set fantasy lineups lol...
Too the people that are thrilled about schools being closed & canceled please remember the reason that they are cancelled is because we are in the midst of a disaster & many schools are the sites of evacuation shelters. People that are staying there have lost everything inculding loved ones.

Please temper you're excitment.
My school (Brooklyn College) and I believe not one CUNY school is being used as a shelter, so..

Long Beach is a disaster. I live in Point Lookout which is on the eastern tip of Long Beach and from what I've heard its not bad except there is no power. I'm staying at a hotel in Rockville Center where there is power.

Baruch is being used as a shelter as are many others. Turns out Baruch, BMCC, Kingsborough, and others don't have classes (as of now) on Friday because of lack of power and damage to the campus.

I stand corrected. Well still, Brooklyn College isn't being used as a shelter.
Whoa. You lost power? I live five blocks from you. I didn't lose it.
Grids are weird.
Also, a question for Mayor ****** berg:
Why do teachers and staff have to report tomorrow, yet the kids can stay home?
Is there a legitimate point to having us go in, or is it a Napoleonic power play? I believe the latter.
I think he just likes to torture us. Work blows without the kids.
all of fort hamilton parkway between 65th and like 85th st lost power. Where are you again? I was at my parents house on 70th and fort, my apt by skinflints was fine

I'm on 86th and Fort. Guess I was just lucky enough.

Believe me when I say under any other circumstance I don't mind going in. This is the mayor flexing his muscle. Nothing more. Mind you I am lucky in that I can walk to work.
My day will go like this tomorrow.
I'll get there. My principal may or may not hold a meeting.
And then I'll be in my office for five hours.
I'll bring clothes to workout in and my Genesis 3. Might as well do something useful.
Again, not it's not horrible. It's completely reasonable and most employers I know are doing the exact same thing. Why does everyone think they're entitled to a free lunch? Nobody is making these employees use their sick days. But assuming they want to get paid for not coming to work then they can do so. End of story.
On Long Island, lost power for about a minute on Monday. The power came back on luckily, but the cable did not. No TV or Internet for 72 hours but its hard to complain considering. A lot of my neighbors/friends have been without power since Monday.
Took a quick trip into lower Manhattan yesterday by the Williamsburg bridge...wow. Honestly if I didn't see it with my own eyes I would have never believed it. Seeing the city so dark like that? The drive in with half the skyline dark, and then getting into the blackness was so surreal.
A homeless man made fun of my flip phone today. Maybe its time to invest in a smart phone and not have to worry about losing internet, ect.
LMAO! I had almost the same thing happen to me last week! She told me I need a new job because I was using a brick nextel. But it's only a work phone......

On Long Island: 650k people don't have power, there is nowhere to get gas and there is barely anywhere to get food. There are literally 2 LIRR train lines running and they are both on the north end of Long Island. If I live on the south shore how the hell am I getting to the Ronkonkoma or Great Neck lines with no gas? What happens if you have kids to take care of who need food and are at home with no heat? The human thing to do is to not make people take vacation days today and tomorrow and let them take the weekend to get their **** together.

They can take sick days. Most people get way more than they use. My employees get 10 and the "honest" ones end up usually taking about half of them, at most. So at the end of the year they get paid for the ones they don't use. My employees got paid for the first day they couldn't get to work this week due to the storm. If they missed a 2nd or a 3rd they simply used 1 or 2 sick days to cover those days, assuming they chose to do so. They'll still end up with unused days at the end of the year, just a couple less. It's really not a big deal.
Wow, it must be nice to have sick days to burn. Many people (including myself) don't have sick days period. We don't work, we don't get paid. Welcome to the yo-yo economy.
