Depending what you mean by long term, Briere is likely gone soonish. Otherwise, this is exactly how I see it.
Well Briere has 3 years left including this year on his contract. I think theres a possibility they resign him after this deal for like a 1 or 2 year deal at a cheap cap hit. He plays a pretty easy game on the body and is clutch in the playoffs, after this deal is done he is either going to resign here or retire.
Or what not. I had to subtract somebody so I did Read. I feel like some team that needs cheap offense will offer the Flyers something real good for him in the future.

I should also mention that Briere is a workout animal, he could play up to age 40 i believe.

I read a lot of talk even last season that Briere was thinking he only wanted to play a couple more seasons to reduce the travel and spend more time with his family. Speculation of course, but not surprising given what we know about him and his relationship with his kids being so paramount.

Briere is close to finished already. No way he is back on a new contract.
Laughton will probably never get a real shot with the big club - he will be dealt to fix a bigger need sooner or later, most likely to acquire a potential #1 D in some package. Book it.

Aww..
He's like Donwnie + Marchand
Don't do this to me!

I highly, highly doubt that. They have no defensive center set for the future.
Hm.. I feel like you are leaving out some guy with no front teeth
Leave his life partner out of this!
But seriously, Laughton is still too raw to really project yet. As far as being a defensive liability, I'd call him a work-in-progress like most young kids. Couturier is a tremendous exception. I will say that heart and tenacity go a long way defensively... Laughton assuredly has those assets.

With Couturier's skillset he will be able to do so much more. Both offensively and defensively. I can see him grabbing the 2nd line center job, put Schenn on his wing, and the 3rd center slot opens up where you can put Laughton. Didn't he play the shut down role in some tournament as well? Shut down Grigorenko and Forsberg.
