That's a good question.

As far as I know, the NHL and the PA agreed to a modified waivers period in September, altering waivers rules until the 15th of September that would give extended waivers rights to certain players in order to play in the AHL. There was a large wave of players who were placed on waivers on the 14th of September in order to qualify for this exemption.

AFAIK, from what I had read at the time, if you weren't waived prior to Sept 15th, then you are ineligible to play in the AHL until there is a new CBA agreement (or, failing that, another temporary mutual agreement between the league and the PA declaring a waivers amnesty or AHL eligibility amnesty for certain types of players).

Also: I'm fairly sure there's an agreement in place between the NHL and the AHL that stipulates that an AHL team cannot sign a player with an existing NHL contract to an AHL contract, ever. It's why a bunch of players signed in the crappy lower North American leagues like the UHL during the 2004/05 lockout (like Chelios, Hatcher & Draper).

Probably the only thing they've agreed to all year.

Could he be sent to the AHL for a 'conditioning stint' seeing as he was injured last year? (I have no idea how conditioning works, or if it is a valid way to bypass waivers.)

The AHL stated prior to the lockout starting that they wanted only players with two way contracts OR players on the 2012 clear day rosters (in addition to AHL only contracts).

Conditioning assignment? Conditioning for what? To sit in a board room with Fehr?

Here are the clear day rosters:

Also: conditioning stints cannot exceed 14 days, AND the Sens would technically be REQUIRED to pay Regin his full NHL salary during a "conditioning stint" (as per rules regarding injured players), so no, Regin won't be on a "conditioning stint" anytime soon.

Why all the fuss about sending him to Bingo at all? It would be better for him to just pick another league to play in. No sense is blocking a prospect's development in Binghamton by parachuting Regin in there.

Why doesn't he just go play in Denmark? There must be a midget/beer league somewhere over there.

He preferred to play in Denmark for Herning over Switzerland, but our tax rules means that he would have to pay tax of money he made in Canada. Yes, stupid.

Exactly. He'll probably sign in Finland pretty soon.

You're still around?!

I think it's funny that the article claims that it's clear that Regin has fully recovered from his injury... based on the 4 games he played.

I think it's a fair statement. If he's skating well, playing well and throwing the body around, it seems reasonable to assume that he's fully healed. Doesn't mean he won't hurt it again, of course.

Then how/why is Bishop in Binghamton?

He was on the clear day roster last year and so is elligble. He's chosen to play in the A why not put him in the Bingo lockerroom.

Yeah, this. Anyone on last season's clear day roster is eligible.

Thanks, JS.

Regin has signed a contract with Rauma Lukko in the Finnish Elite League.

He's the fifth Danish player in the team. They already have backup goalie Simon Nielsen, and NHL players Frans Nielsen, Mikkel Bödker and Philip Larsen.

I bet it's only because Rauma is on the West Coast of Finland, nearer Denmark than many other cities of the league.
