Who would you rather have at 1st, Youk or Pena?

Not exactly great options either way....

Youk's the better option...I just don't want to see him in a Rays uniform. I can't stand the guy and his temper tantrums.

Hope the Brewers can land Haren. His contract is far better than the alternatives.

We traded Cesar Izturis, only if we can sign him to replace Segura.

This deal worked out pretty well even if it was a terrible idea at the time. Now, let him walk and get back the draft pick they gave up in the first place.

Was hoping he'd go back to the phils, was great when he was the 8th inning guy and their pen was a mess with so much youth and inexperience.

With Rivera likely to retire and Robertson unable to close games out, who do you see closing for the Yanks if they don't re-sign Soriano? IMO, the Yanks HAVE to re-sign him if they still want to have a dominant bullpen next year. If they don't, well, they better hope Fat-Man Chamberlain stays healthy and performs + Robertson learns the closer role. With their so-so starting pitching, having a great bullpend is a must.

Since when was David Robertson "unable to close games?" One of the top 10 relievers in baseball has one bad week, and all of the sudden he's unable to pitch the 9th for the rest of his life?

The Yankees have been down this road before, and gotten burned over and over again (see: Steve Karsay, Paul Quantrill, Kyle Farnsworth, Pedro Feliciano, etc.) Reliever is the most volatile position in baseball, it makes no sense to hand out huge contracts in the bullpen.

Soriano was great this year, but the first year of his contract he was mediocre at best. Giving him another fat deal would be silly. The Yankees are better off collecting a group cheap, good arms and mixing and matching until they find a good group. That's what they've done in the past few years (finding great success with unheralded guys like Robertson, Wade, Eppley, Ramirez, Veras, etc.)

Rules are changed, no more Type A's and B's. I think the figure is 13.3 mill. That means Yankees would have to offer Soriano 1 year 13.3 mill contract and if he declines and leaves via free agency Yankees would get a compensation pick (between rounds 1 and 2).

I trust the great one will be back for 2013. What we do at closer after that is my concern. I hope Robertson can hack it.

Where goes Haren today? I'd love him in Baltimore.

Yankees have made qualifying offers (13.3 mill - 1 year) to Kuroda, Soriano and Swisher.

Cubs about to get Haren for Marmol

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation

A little confirmation from LA side. RT "@MikeDiGiovanna: #Angels are on verge of trading Dan Haren to the #Cubs for reliever Carlos Marmol."
