Anyway, Nail doesn't have anything to worry about. I'm sure Oil nation has his back even if Cherry is blasting him on HNIC. That's one thing OV didn't have, a legion of hardcore Canadian hockey fans. I actually kind of hope that people hate Nail, at least a little bit. It might sound weird, but just think about how respectable Iginla is. We haven't been able to properly hate the Flames because of Iggy. He's a class act and I'll always respect the guy... I'm talking about the Flames captain, that's not how it should be.
With guys like Yakupov and Schultz as part of our core now, trust me, our team is going to be disliked for quite some while.

Adding Luongo would just be excessive, so I hope that it keeps management far away.

No kidding. Trying to spell it was a complete failure too. Thank God for Google and of course, cut/copy & paste.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that his KHL team is willing to let their best offensive player go and play in this Super Series? Aren't they trying to win? Even releasing your best players to play in the WJC would be odd.

Imagine if the Edmonton Oilers did the same thing.

I imagine in the KHL it's rather taboo to withhold talent from anything titled "Team Russia" from competition with anything Canadian. I imagine, as a league, the KHL is trying to establish itself as the 2nd best league in the world by establishing Russian players as among the best.

Besides that, from what I hear, increased prospects of playing for the Russian national team is something the KHL uses to lure players to their league... so if they started withholding players from national teams, it would drive their players away.

You're thinking short term, HF NefNiz and the KHL are thinking long term.

For some reason the KHL seems to be taking a break in early Nov. There is one game on the 1st, 3rd and 4th and nine on the 2nd, but then no other games until the 14th.

Neftekhimik's next game is on the 14th. So Yak is likely going to miss their games on the 14th and 16th and probably be back for the 18th.

If interested, highlights of the last game with English "commentary".

For those asking about how to pronounce Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, they say it pretty clearly in the video.

1st stage of Euro Hockey Tour in Finland is starting shortly, that's why the KHL goes on a break. Nail would most probably be called up to team Russia, if he hadn't had to go to the SSS.

They call it the "international break" in the KHL. Various international tournaments/events for players to attend.

Didn't see it posted anywhere else:

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...onthly-honors/

October has been a good month with Schultz in AHL and now Yakupov in the KHL

Here's a link for the stream. Note the misspelling on Yakupovs team.

Thanks for the link. Hopefully Yak can pick up where he left off and just put the Super Series behind him. That was honestly a little disappointing.

I watched every game and personally, other then his stats...I wasn't all that disappointed. His playmaking skills were still elite compared to everyone else. His teammates, for the most part, couldn't handle his passes...which were again elite. He played with an edge when he was targeted...and I loved how he handled the puck when pressured. The thing I noticed the most throughout the series was how he would calmly either play the puck back to the Dmen or circle back to his own zone and regroup to maintain puck possession...instead of the usually hockey play where a player will panic and chip the puck off the boards so that the other team regains possession. So overall I wasn't even close to being disappointed with how he played. When you're the number one target on the team, you'll have adversity to deal with. 6 games is too small of a sample size to analyze because if it was a league of any sort, he would have adjusted. This won't be the case with Nail when the NHL resumes. He won't be the only guy on the team relied on to produce.

Looks like he played today.
~16 minutes, no points, 1 shot (loss 2-1 OT).

Anyone watch it?

'You can't make mistakes like this. [Nail Yakupov] is a talented young player but we're gonna have to fix him for the future' - NFK's coach.

Highlights will be interesting.

haha, i see a bit of coffey in yak: sublime player who might make a couple of coaches go grey earlier then they otherwise would have

i know all coaches need to preach defense, defense, defense, and yak needs to learn that part of the game to *really* be successful and help his team win.... BUT... there is PLENTY of time for this, and i'm not worried in the least about it.... he'll be a decent defensive player by the time he is 22-23 or so, his compete level is simply too high for him not to be

Well I really really hope so, because from everything I've seen of him, he is pretty dreadful defensively.

yeah he sure is, but that's to be expected to be honest... the list of fantastic NHLers that were horrendous defensively when they were teenagers is rather long... half the hall of fame would fit this description actually, if not more... way, way, way too early to be even *thinking* about this, let alone being concerned about it

I am surprised he played today, probably was tired from the long trip.
Imagine how many air miles he has this year. I hope he gets back to his
point per game pace that he had before the KHL break.
Here are some media for Yakupov fans.
