@SportsnetSpec: The AHL hasn't named a D-Man Player of the Week in over a year. Until Justin Schultz came along: http://t.co/7xHXFdP6

So if a new thread is created on the prospect board about this will Ducks fans come in to derail it again?

No. They'll just educate us about how Schultz really isn't that good and how we should wish we had someone as good as Vatanen instead

should we tone it down, considering Justin is playing with fellow NHLers like RNH and Eberle? I havent been able to watch all the games but his poise and IQ are what is outstanding to me. He has had to deal with alot of abuse in the last few games and he just has solid reads before he even gets the puck, takes a hit if need be and simply executes the smart play.

Trying not to get carried away so i remind myself we have a few NHLers on that team.

He is outscoring those NHL players and has hardly been a byproduct of them.

The guy is a hell of a hockey player, he'll probably hit a wall at some point since the NCAA doesn't have as many games in their seasons, but he'll continue being a great player for the Barons.

To be fair I wouldn't like the guy if the Oilers drafted him and he went to Anaheim.

Despite that I like the Oilers future with Smid, Petry, Schultz, and Klefbom all playing well. Not to mention Musil, Gernat, and Marincin. All of a sudden we are stacked with young forwards and young defensemen!

Does anyone find it odd that the AHL names him player of the month, but Granlund Rookie of the month?

It's not meant as a shot against Granlund as his start has been very impressive as well, it's just odd that the best player (according to the AHL) who happens to be a rookie isn't named the best rookie.

Yes it's odd since they are both rookies, but who cares. Player of the Month > Rookie of the month. They can't give him every award.

Probably just a case of wanting to recognize more than one player. But yes, doesn't quite make sense.

Nope. We know we have a gem here. It's been too long since we've been able to celebrate something besides #1 picks.

Party on, Bryan.

He can also win Defenseman of the Month, Offensive Defenseman of the Month, and That Time of the Month.
