Even one season lost would be two in less than a decade. You can't be a major professional sport if you don't compete for two seasons. That's women's soccer territory.

I don't think it'll be any 'worse' than one year, eventually outside mediation has to become a factor. You just can't have two sides saying we won't budge for two years without some outside pressure being brought to bear. I just wish mediation could be immediately imposed on any billion dollar sports league that refuses to play, especially after both sides refuse to negotiate.

My advice?

Get into the NCAA.

If your school didn't have a DI team, adopt one. I went to school in the south, but I cheer for UVM (who arent very good right now). Games are televised on NBC Sports now (as well as a few college stations if you have those. The best part is that 95% of them dont have a prayer of playing in the NHL, they're just hockey players.

Johnny Oduya playing in Thailand: http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2012/1...oute-thailand/

----------------

Speaking of November Rain, I'm going to catch Guns 'N Roses (aka fat Axl and replacement musicians) play in Vegas in a couple weeks. Earlier that night, I have a free tickets for a tennis exhibition involving retired players like Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. It shall be the "Man, this would have been way more awesome in 1988" night.

Oduya went to Thailand? That's unexpected.

I imagine the league is made up mostly of ex-pats, I can't imagine there is any serious organisation of hockey there.

Another funny blip from the article: "this year Vesa Toskala participated in the event as a forward with a Finnish team, and previous tournaments have seen Troy Crowder and Neal Broten get involved."

Let`s be honest here. It has nothing to do with hockey. He just enjoys their hookers.

And finally, reader Scott goes not as a player or an owner, but as the as-of-yet unsigned CBA, even leaving space for Bettman and Fehr to come to an agreement. Tidbit: the text on his t-shirt is actually a direct transcription of one of the NHLPA's most recent proposals.
When you see it...

Right now there's people out of work everywhere, there's people in poverty, and half the East Coast has been hit by a huge storm. People have no homes, people have no cars, people really don't give a **** how big his candy bars are.

If he had made this joke among friends I wouldn't think it was a big deal. To publicly make this statement on twitter is completely inappropriate. Hey James do you have power right now? Is the bank foreclosing on your house because you missed a payment last month cause you weren't paid? Are you in poverty? Do you not have a pot to piss in? Is Paul Martin still cooking you breakfast? GO **** YOURSELF!

It's really hard for me to give a **** about the players demands with all the damage I've seen from around here. Some people, your fans, lost everything and your arguing over money when the league minimum is 500K? Get a grip of the real world.
