I'm happy to see the Islanders staying put.

The writing has been on the wall for sometime now. Glad Wang finally got tired of the councels b.s. I expect a little more pressure on Edmonton now.

We need a deal done.

Here is just another reason why though.

If Chris Neil were to play 23 games this year, he would have enough time left on his contract to hit 1000 games with the Sens

I'm postitive he'll re-sign here so I think we'll see him hit 1000 in a Sens jersey.

Unless he has a career ending injury, which isn't unlikely considering the way he plays (knock on wood).

I wonder how many awards Karlsson has to win before people start to recognize how good he is?

Pietrangelo->Doughty->Karlsson.... come on!

The problem with a lot of posters on HF is they say they watch certain players play when they don't. Too many people jump on the bandwagon when someone says a player is bad defensively. However, if people actually watched him like Rangers fans did, they would see he's fine defensively. Small defenseman + good offensively = bad defensively.

Byfuglien is probably one of the few players who can somewhat withstand the Karlsson Squeeze.
It looked so awkward and funny vs him.

He still kept him on the outside though and came out from that boardwork with the puck.

Do you think BM will make an offer to Edler if he makes it to FA?

A top four of

Edler/Karlsson
Cowen/Ceci

or

Cowen/Karlsson
Edler/Ceci

Looks fantastic!

If the cap does go down, the sens will be in a good position to make an offer.

6m/year for 7 years maybe? Puts it one year past Karlsson so they are not both up at the same time.

Idk about Edler. We have some good forward prospects, but still a ton of spots need filling. We will have Spezza, Michalek, and nobody else as proven top 6 talent. If Edler gets 6 mil, we couldnt afford 4 more top 6 players once Cowen, Zib, Silf, etc get past their ELC's.

Do we exceed our "Swede" limit

Silfverberg, Zibanejad, Petersson, Alfie(if he is still playing)

Karlsson, Edler, Claesson

Lehner

I'd gladly throw Edler a contract. Add him and our D looks like it'll be one of the top defences league-wide in a few years.

Edler - Karlsson
Cowen - Gonchar
Phillips - Methot
Lundin

Then replace Gonchar, Lundin, and Methot with Wiercioch, Borocop, and Ceci.

here is a rough Idea for 2013/14

FORWARDS
Jakob Silfverberg ($0.900m) / Jason Spezza ($7.000m) / Mika Zibanejad ($1.744m)

Colin Greening ($0.817m) / Zack Smith ($0.700m) / Chris Neil ($2.000m)
Erik Condra ($0.625m) / Jim O'Brien ($0.638m) / Stefan Noesen ($1.107m)
Mike Hoffman ($0.677m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Alex Edler ($6.000m) / Erik Karlsson ($6.500m)
Jared Cowen ($1.265m) / Marc Methot ($3.000m)
Chris Phillips ($3.083m) / Cody Ceci ($1.400m)
Mark Borowiecki ($0.610m) /
GOALTENDERS
Craig Anderson ($3.188m)
Robin Lehner ($0.870m)

------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

edler would be nice, but my more realistic target next year would actually be mark streit.

but who knows, maybe edler would love to come to little sweden.

So you believe tax payers should take the financial risk when an NHL owners decide to hold the tax paying public responsible for whatever they want or else???

This mentality is exactly why there is no NHL hockey today.

FACT, the Nassau County elected officials didn't turn down the proposal made by Wang, it was turned down by the voters 57% to 43%.

First of all, do a little more research than what you read this week on HF boards.

If you did, you would know that Wang had tried for years to work with the councillors to come up with a plan. They kept giving him the run around. Mikhail Prokhorov invited Wang to play in his new arena a long time ago. When Wang could not get any where with Nasseau City Council, he said enough is enough and agreed to move into Barclays Center.

Wangs arena problems has nothing to do with the current reason there is no hockey on.

Edler 100% is worth more than $6 000 000 on the open market.

I'd say he could get $7 000 000 if he hits FA.

Wouldn't mind Edler coming to the team either. He'd be a solid replacement for Gonchar.

Any of you catch this info?? Today's NYPost

For this from an individual in the room for Friday’s negotiating sessions and confirmed word-for-word by Slap Shots by a source across the aisle:

“Near the end of the meeting, Don [Fehr] said to Gary [Bettman]: ‘Let me get this straight. Even if the players agree to every single component of the league’s economic plan, we still don’t have a deal unless we also agree to every one of your proposed changes to player contract rights?’ ”

To which, both of our sources reported, “Gary said: ‘Yes.’”

And further down;
Every core component of every league CBA proposal this time around is meant to restrict the players’ rights to choose.

What the league is proposing — no, what the league is demanding — is that the players accept the most restrictive system in pro sports.
