Mays' entire game is just ramming his shoulder into a guy as hard as he can. If he doesn't knock the guy down, it's a missed tackle 8-yard gain.
I've never seen the dude actually wrap his arms around a ball carrier. People get all excited because he hits hard but it's so completely inaccurate. I gotta believe Del Rio has tried time and time again to get him to tackle a runner appropriately but Mays never has changed.
Williams is the best option of those 4, IMO. Weiss certainly has all the makings of a great manager in the future, but it reeks of nepotism when you see a former Rox player make the jump from high school coach to MLB manager. It would be great to get him back in the organization though. Runnels is underwhelming at best, while Giambi is, well, Giambi. Williams at least has been a big league coach for the last two years, and always seemed like a smart leader when he was playing.
Really, nobody on that last makes me feel good about the team going forward. Mired in mediocrity, hoo-ray.
Its a tough schedule to open with. 2 straight road games against teams opening their home schedule. Teams tend to play their best on home opening night. It will get better, the Nuggs are a pretty decent team.
